Mathematics has many daughters. Nearly all are beautiful. Physics & Chemistry are dutiful & visit home often. Life science is always away on some exotic research trip, hardly has time to write. Three of the girls live at home: Statistics, Computer Science ... & The Other One.

Statistics spent some time in a sanitarium, no one talks about it. She's doing better now, dotes on mother. Computer Science puts on a suit each day for her Big Important Job. But she still never moved out. 1/

@futurebird when I began my studies in CS back in the late 80s, the CS department had just recently calved off from the department of mathematics and it still resided in the school of arts and sciences. all of the CS faculty were former mathematics faculty. by the time I graduated the department was about to leave arts and sciences and join the school of engineering....

It appears that some universities are banning masks of any kind at sites where they are holding their graduation ceremony. This is ableist, exclusionary, and completely unacceptable.

I'd guess the ban is not for the campus as a whole but for Gampel pavilion, in the background of the photo. it is the venue for the larger graduation ceremonies at uconn

So, how many people were laid off by @posit_pbc in its most recent cuts?

What proportion of their total workforce?

What team(s)?

Hi folks,

I'm wanting to show/see svg graphics in eww

(image-type-available-p 'svg) returns t

eww, works, but svg images are not shown, though eww does not complain about them and other image types are shown as expected

to be a bit more specific, I want to show svg graphics created and served by the httpgd package

I am able to connect to the server and view graphics using firefox, so the httpgd service itself works

I'm running emacs 28.2 on linux mint

What am I missing?

dusted off a 2015 vintage Dell optiplex mini tower that had been sitting idle for about 4 years, plugged in a wifi card and installed (originally ran Windows 10)

it works like a champ

dunno yet what I'm going to do with it though

It's his lack of integrity or a moral compass
