For the well-tempered scale as promoted by J.S.Bach, the magic number is the 2 to the power of (1/12). Common programming language representations include 2 ** (1/12) and 2 ^ (1/12). A good approximation is 1.0594631.

Multiply frequency with this number gives you the frequency of one half tone up. Divide, one half tone down. Repeation yields any interval.

To fix things, ISO international standard concert pitch defines A to be 440 Hz.

Well-tempered scale is a compromise. As is any fixed scale.

With modern technology, there's no need to keep the scale constant during a piece.

It should be no problem to change notes from chord to chord ever so slightly. This way, within each chord, the harmonies and intervals could be true.

I would be curious to hear some standard Bach organ piece ("Toccata und Fuge d-Moll BWV 565" or something) normal and that way, whether I can tell a difference.

Thank you for pointing this out! I was indeed confusing well- and equal-tempered!

After reading up in Wikipedia: Well-tempered became common before and during Bach's time. There are several well-tempered flavors, equal-tempered is one of them. Equal-tempered is widely used today, but was only one of several competing flavors in Bach's day. Bach certainly used well-tempered, but we don't know the flavor. There are hints Bach did NOT use equal-tempered.

Warum erst bei Faschisten anfangen? Ich finde, eine "sachgerechte" Behandlung sollte jede und jeder bekommen, die oder der anderen nach Gusto Menschenrechte nimmt.

Menschenrechte werden gebrochen, wenn Bürgerinnen oder Bürger zur Selbstjustiz greifen. Selbstjustiz ist nicht sachgerecht. Das Gewaltverbot des "Landfriedens" war ein zivilisatorischer Fortschritt.

Das Mittelalter vorher und auch die Zeit der politischen Selbstjustiz-Schlägertrupps vor 80-100 Jahren waren beide finster.

"A hat B unterstützt". Ist das moralisch gut oder verwerflich? Was muss bei dieser Botschaft noch mit gesagt werden, um das zu unterscheiden?

Wer Person A ist? Nein. Ist egal.

Wer Person B ist? Auch nein. Auch egal.

Wichtiger: Wie die Unterstützung aussah. Wofür A sich eingesetzt hat. - Die Info fehlt.

Nützlich wäre auch zu wissen, was A damit bezweckt. - Fehlt auch.

Inzwischen habe ich den tatsächlich gelesen. Ich finde keinen Zusammenhang zu irgendwelchen Chatcontrol-Argumenten. Der ganze Toot von Patrick ist "ad hominem".

Er zieht nur Aufmerksamkeit weg von wirklichen Gründen gegen Chatcontrol. Meine Favoriten:

  • Fördert Politikverdrossenheit.
  • Gibt einer zukünftigen Rechtsaußenregierung eine furchtbare Unterdrückungsmöglichkeit.
  • Funktioniert nur, wenn Opensource verboten wird.

Patrick machts sonst besser.

Ob 15 oder 30 Jahre Knast die Opfer besser schützen, kann zumindest sachlich diskutiert werden. Ich erhoffte mir nicht viel davon, Strafen immer härter zu machen. "Bei 15 Jahren Knast kann ich eine Vergewaltigung noch riskieren, bei 30 Jahren nicht mehr" - so tickt m.E. kein Verbrecher.

Ein höheres Risiko, überhaupt erwischt zu werden, schreckt mehr ab.

Insofern finde ich die Argumentation von diesem US-Star nicht inherent unlogisch oder vorgeschoben.

Das Projekt GeZero von Heidelberg Materials wird die Zementproduktion im nordrhein-westfälischen Werk Geseke vollständig dekarbonisieren. Der Betrieb wird 2029 aufgenommen und kann jährlich 700.000 Tonnen CO2 einsparen🌎🌿.

Das entspricht in etwa den jährlichen Emissionen von ungefähr 420.000 Autos, die jeweils 15.000 Kilometer pro Jahr fahren mit einem gewichteten durchschnittlichen CO2-Ausstoß.

Leider wird allein dieses Werk bis dahin weitere etwa 3.500.000 Tonnen CO2 in die Atmosphäre blasen. Die wir irgendwie wieder rausholem müssen, wenn wir das 1,5°C-Ziel noch halten wollen. Das wollen wir, weil irgendwo (kurz) hinter 1,5°C der globale Kipppunkt und das furchtbare Hothouse Earth-Scenario lauern.

Welche Pläne hat das @BMWK , CO2 im großen Stil aus der Atmosphäre wieder zu entfernen?

Ich würde gerne mehr über langfristige Perspektiven von Ihnen lesen.

Links you post in a Fediverse toot should generally start with the magic string "https://" (without the "") - lest the software will not recognize your link as a link. This would make it unnecessarily cumbersome for your toot's readers to follow your link.

Fine print: Tech nerds sometimes (rarely) use some protocol string different from "https" in front of the ":". They (hopefully) know what they are doing.

To omit the "s" and start a link with "http://" is deprecated and mostly wrong.

It is always a peculiar joy to encounter a skilful oversitting.

For our non-German-speaking friends: The German word for "translation" is the compound "Übersetzung", where "über" is "over" and "setzung" is "sitting".

The incomprehensible phrases of previous toots were constructed similarly, by translating German colloquialisms bit by bit.

There are a lot of blind people on here, who use screen reader software to tell them what is on the screen. To help screen reader users, it's a good idea to use emoji rather than old-style smileys.

For example 😄 will be read out loud as "smile" because that's its alt text. However, :D will be read out loud as "colon D".

(Some old-style smileys do work with screen readers, but most don't. Emoji are safer.)

But, to pick a nit: Is the reasoning correct?

A standard emoticon like the one in your example is a plain humble unicode character. There's no HTML tag with an alt attribute, characters simply do not have alt texts. Its images and other media that do. The "smile" is added by an English screen reading software.

It may be different when people use custom emojis provided by their server instance. My choice: I generally don't.

I just hesitate to call that "Unicode string" an "alt text". For me, an alt text is something in HTML (or XML): The content of some tag's "alt" attribute.

To my excuse: Precise terminology can prevent confusion. Example: "Plain text cannot contain alt texts." - "🤔 Wait! The alt texts of emojis are read out all right!" Or: "The document author determines the language and content of alt texts."

At the end of the day, we all agree what authors should do.

Viele Menschen, die wegen Krieg + Verfolgung ihre Heimat verlassen, wurden dadurch traumatisiert und leiden unter posttraumatischen Belastungsstörungen, Depressionen etc.
Trotzdem haben sie in Deutschland erst nach 18 Monaten Anspruch auf eine Psychotherapie.

Dadurch besteht die Gefahr weiterer Folgeerkrankungen, dass die Integration erschwert wird und die Suzizidgefährdung zunimmt.

Traumatisierte Geflüchtete brauchen raschen Zugang zu Psychotherapien, die ihnen aber erst nach 18 Monaten zustehen und außerdem gibt es zu wenig Ressourcen im System.

In over half a century, I realized over time, that not in a single case where I felt strongly enough about an issue to write letters to my applicable politician, sign petitions, donate to a legal battle, or take to the street to peacefully protest, did this make an iota of a difference. In a way, it's the best case for the other side; Like telling a bully "Stop that or I will continue to tell you to stop until I tire". There's different conclusions that can be drawn from this.

Since about 1979, it was my opinion as no nuclear waste solution is proven, atomic energy is unethical as it entails us having the benefit and future generations paying for it.

This year, finally, my country switched off our last atomic power plants that were still in operation.

(We still do that "let the future pay for it" scheme in a lot of other variations.)

If the likes of "recorded deaths per joule" were a meaningful measure, your argument made sense.

Unsurprisingly, I think it is way too shortsighted. The enormous future human suffering risk and future expenses to prevent it are my main arguments against both fossile and nuclear.

Nuclear waste must be kept out of the biosphere for some 10^6 years.

Even the research how to at least communicate "this stuff is dangerous" that long has only pathetic, unconvincing results.

Projected human suffering (or, if that's easier to gauge, death) I find a much more sensible metrics than recorded human suffering, as the former includes the time dimension I value.

Somewhat nit-picky: I would count per Watthour (or, to sound more 'phisticated, per Joule) rather than per Watt. A way to produce 100 W of power for 100 years may reasonably be allowed to be more expensive than a way to produce 100 W of power for only one year.
