Wow, turns out block searching algorithm makes a HUGE performance difference in the encoding step. Swapped out my naive brute force search for a simple four-step recursive search and massively sped up the encoder. 720p video now encodes at around 30 FPS instead of 8 lol.

i've never really scripted this much story for one of our games before and it's a very interesting experience. particularly the amount of effort required to get around "we can't show that because we don't have the assets or the resources to create them"

I've seen so many people arguing against leaving Twitter for Mastodon for the sake of open dialogue.

That is a thrilling idea until you realize most people involved in "dialogue" are not in it to discuss but to threaten, insult and troll.

Sometimes, there's no dialogue, and staying on a social network whose owner is a magnificent troll himself is just pouring gasoline over a fire.

@sharan it's been how many years and people still don't seem to realize that the online right thrives on conflict with the left in online spaces. Having a "dialogue" is giving them exactly what they want. The only time I've seen them defeated has been when they're isolated with nobody to fight with, left impotently raging at nobody

One of the most frustrating things about the current discourse is how fragmented it is.

I want reliable, current info on risks of infection and long-term disability from infection, and I have no idea where to look or whom to trust.

Meanwhile, I hear one set of facts and concerns from the communities I follow on social media, and my wife hears very different ones from her friends and doctors and so on. Who's right? How do I know?

This is just abysmal.

in you end levels by walking through a torii... OR you can leap over it! if you do you'll get a shower of coins from Inari, but if you bonk against the side you'll have to do the walk of shame 😔 but at least you get a single pity coin

@utopify_org jumping over them wouldn't (since that's impossible for humans >_>) but those gates famously show up at Inari's shrine in Kyoto, businesses buy and donate them because Inari is a deity of prosperity
