Pluto is a planet. I'm an artist, photographer, and enterprise software engineer out of PHL ✈️ . I post white noise, my own photos, generative AI experiments, and blog spam, but mostly I boost art and photography.

I'm looking for alternatives. I'm finding the latest iterations make too many errors when analyzing complex sentences. More importantly, despite my best efforts to disable the dozen or more language policing features, it's starting to feel like HR is constantly reading over my shoulder.

Me: "Then we all headed out for the old watering hole."

Grammarly: "Then we all headed out for the older watering hole."

I don't mind tipping whatever we're tipping these days, but I don't like restaurants or takeout in the first place, and I like to cook. Honestly, I think a lot of the tips should go directly to the dishwasher. He's the only reason I'm there.

Bluesky is a lot like what you'd get if the guy who made Twitter sold the site for billions of dollars, then immediately turned and made a new Twitter that nobody but wannabe influencers used.

I was looking through a big book of Andy Warhol Polaroids in the park, but had to cut it short, because Warhol with a Polaroid in the ‘70s involves a fair number of ambush dick pics.

So-called "Objectivism", the "philosophy" of Ayn Rand, is nothing but ableism thinly disguised as a philosophy.

A person's abilities and disabilities DO NOT define that person's worth. Thinking they do is putting the cart before the horse. Who cares what you can or can't do if it isn't useful TO someone? So answer me this: Are people valuable because they can do things, or are the things people can do valuable because they're useful...to people?

The value of all the things we experience comes from our experience of them. Our moral worth originates within us. It is primary, and is not derived, as the value of our abilities is.

@hosford42 Everyone should read Ayn Rand's "The Romantic Manifesto." It's short and will prevent you from accidentally mistaking her for a philosopher while innoculating you from getting dragged into her long fiction as well.

I’m looking for some advice on how to upgrade my TV audio setup:

I currently have a Beam (Gen 1), what you would do?

erik,

@rafa I keep mine on two blocks of 3-inch acoustic foam.

In all seriousness, I think it's time to accept that web search is currently broken as an idea, and we all need to go back to sharing our favorite links on personal websites. And we need to make personal websites a thing again, too.

The cover photo for the new Musk book speaks volumes. It is the sort of painfully cliche and generic executive headshot that shouts, "I watch Rick and Morty ."

When lurking the web, I often have to remind myself that people frequently say wild things because they’re in a bad pace. I wonder to what extent constantly sharing and reading maladaptive thoughts and perspectives serves to spread them like digital prions for the soul.

Wawa complains about crime at their Center City locations, which is fair. However, the neighborhoods mysteriously improve dramatically soon after the Wawa is gone.

erik,
@erik@iam.reasonably.social avatar

@jake4480 These didn't have gas stations. There is actually only one gas station in Center City that I can think of. At any rate, the neighborhood always gets grimier and crime-ier wherever they open one up downtown. They had to close one on South Street that was directly next to the police station. They shared a wall.

We should be celebrating the demise of a murderous warlord guilty of any number of crimes against humanity. Instead, the media focuses on run-of-the-mill Putin intrigues, a failed coup, and what a "charismatic" leader he had been, without even mentioning a career based on atrocities.
