Israel is in violation of a WH directive requiring recipients of American military assistance to comply with int'l humanitarian law & permit the unimpeded delivery of US-funded humanitarian support, USAID officials concluded in a confidential paper reviewed by Devex* https://www.devex.com/news/exclusive-usaid-officials-say-israel-breached-us-directive-on-gaza-aid-107545

In a submission to Blinken, USAID “assesses the government of Israel does not currently demonstrate necessary compliance.” Blinken is required to formally certify to Congress in the coming weeks whether Israel complies with the WH memo.

*Devex is new to me. They sound VERY legit. details to follow...

I had a really bitter concoction called "spring wine" which was a chi-based taoist recipe with all manner of weird chinese herbs.

Then I made it much worse by steeping wormwood in it to make home-made absinthe.

It wasn't only horribly bitter and twangy, but the aftertaste simply did. not. go. away. The only thing I found to cut through it was Lagavulin - a very peaty, smokey Islay scotch.

At this time, I highly recommend you go to AlJazeera's website at least once a day to at least get a rough feel for what is going on.

Western media is way too focused on student protests and culture war framing to provide any meaningful news about the whole reason for those protests.

AlJazeera: Gaza Civil Defence issues warning to displaced Palestinians

As temperatures soar in the Gaza Strip, the Palestinian Civil Defence has warned that conditions are ripe for “the expansion of the spread of epidemics & diseases among [displaced Palestinians], especially among children & pregnant women”.

“Drink plenty of water, try to ventilate the place, keep children away from the sun’s rays, especially at peak heat times, & be sure to wipe their bodies with cold water constantly”, spokesperson Basal said in a statement on Telegram, speaking to the thousands of displaced Palestinians currently sheltering in tents.

I recently got a Milwaukee 10" chainsaw - which comes tool only, no battery.

It was cheaper to get a drill & impact driver combo that came with 2 batteries and a charger than it was to get 1 battery and a charger separately.

Why does #DuckDuckGo give so many #News #Search results to #MSN? and #Yahoo? And is there any way to change that?

I want a link to the organization that did the journalism, not some scraping site where I can't trust that the link won't go away at some point.

"news" tabbed search for "UN News" gives 29 first page results.

12 of them are MSN scrapes of other news orgs including AFP, CNN, Reuters, LATimes, Bloomberg, AP, etc. and 2 unknown sourced Yahoo articles. That's nearly 50%.

And it's front loaded. Of the 1st 13 hits, 11 are MSN or Yahoo. 84%

exador23,

@ai6yr their 'custom date' interface is very buggy too, which is frustrating. Sometimes you need to cut out the last week or month of results when researching something.

As a related aside, some current event article I posted today had the preview here come up claiming it was from 1969. lol.

Secret Service agent assigned to Kamala Harris hospitalized after exhibiting "distressing behavior," officials say https://www.cbsnews.com/news/secret-service-agent-assigned-to-kamala-harris-exhibits-distressing-behavior/

Two sources briefed on the situation told CBS News the agent spouted gibberish, was speaking incoherently and provoked another officer physically.

According to sources, the agent in question pushed the special agent in charge while they were near the lounge of Joint Base Andrews.

The agent was immediately handcuffed and detained by other Secret Service agents who intervened, sources said, and ambulances were called to the scene. After an initial medical evaluation, the agent was admitted to a hospital, sources said.

The U.S. Must Recognize Palestine https://archive.is/tpfqg

The attempt to portray the Palestinians' application for UN membership as a substitute for negotiations is an Israeli manipulation...because Israel is not taking a single step that would seem to advance direct negotiations

It is not at all clear why the U.S. is [vetoing] a move that advances the diplomatic solution. There is no reason not to recognize a Palestinian state alongside Israel while at the same time working toward negotiations to achieve a two-state solution. Only in this way will this solution have a chance.

Police in Jerusalem shooting skunk water* indiscriminately, contrary to police standing orders and risking the health and even lives of those targeted. ~ Noga Tarnopolsky

Skunk Water has been used by Israeli Security Forces for 15 years now. https://science.howstuffworks.com/skunk-water-weapon-control-crowds.htm

It or something similar was used on Columbia students at a protest some months ago, reportedly by some pro-Israeli group (not by authorities). Its use and lack of follow-up, investigation, disciplinary action, or even support for the victims by the university admin arguable contributed to Columbia students being more committed and radicalized.
