Don Joyce of Negativland liked to tape Art Bell. I found a show where Art is talking to Whitley Streiber (“Communion”) and taking calls when something strange happens: every 45 seconds, they start hearing a phone auto-dialer.

Art is flummoxed: “Somebody's breaking in on our line…this last half hour is the most puzzling I've ever done on radio.”

I checked the phone tones and the number is: 1-800-468-3445

When Googled, there are no results.

When I see that someone else in the fediverse knows who Don Joyce is, it makes me happy. I listened to his show, Over the Edge, on KPFA from the 80s through the late 90s. When you say you “found a show”, was it an episode of Over the Edge; and was it one of his UFO-themed shows?

You are their archivist! Excellent! I am glad you are doing this. I know most of the Over the Edge shows are on archive.org and I listen to them quite a lot. Are the reels you are archiving now going to be available publicly?

Great story in this week’s , “I want my mp3”, about a couple of computer science students and music lovers at in 1993 who used digitization and data compression, both in their infancy, to create the IUMA (Internet Underground Music Archive). This was way before Napster or anything else. Today, if you search for IUMA on archive.org you will get 45,000 hits.

Good news from Voyager 1.

NASA teams were able to move code that was on a section of corrupted memory in one of the spacecraft's computers. Now it's sending back usable engineering data for the first time since November 2023.

I was out walking #WestCliff #SantaCruz between rain clouds this afternoon around 2:15pm and this happened across from #LighthousePoint.
I was trying to capture the sound of the wind blowing through the trees, but what you heard is mostly the wind going by my microphone.
The wind is very strong. This is part of the #AtmosphericRiver level 3 that is hitting us today.

In 1075 King Bleddyn’s star was on the rise. He ruled over both Gwynedd and Powys. He struck fear into those he met on the battlefield. He had demonstrated himself such a threat that the Normans actually tried to assassinate him…repeatedly. But he was still very much alive, kicking ass and taking heads. If any Welsh leader was likely to take up the project of Welsh unification started by r King Gruffydd, it was probably King Bleddyn.
