Thought: Languages have textures, particularly when spoken by native speakers. But a lot of the language learning tools don’t have the same texture, like it’s sanded down to be more easily understood by someone who doesn’t speak it yet.
Because I’m learning Korean, and watching Korean media, it’s easier to spot in that context. But also, remembering how both Duolingo and Rosetta Stone’s Spanish lessons sound, it happens there too. There’s a flow that’s missing.
Question time: The cast of We Are having multiple people who usually play the supportive friend role playing romantic leads this time around has me thinking...
Are there any supporting actors that you would like to see in a main role, for whatever reason?
(Natch, with the understanding that there are plenty of meaty roles that don't require being the romantic lead -- and in fact some supporting roles fit that bill.)
Those: “haha American consumerism” jokes are getting old, and are significantly less funny when you take into account how much and many people are struggling financially here.
So yeah, some people go a bit wild over the opportunity to get some needs/wants met for cheaper. And it’s not without room for critique or commentary…
But I also tend to find a lot of consumerism critique, by nature, to be more victim blame-y than meaningfully pushing for any kind of change. So I might be biased.
While waiting for an elevator, I got to see two hospital clowns at work.
It was pretty neat. They entertained a kid who was also waiting for the elevator with her mom.
I found myself grinning along under my mask. Speaking of which, they themselves were masked too, in a way that was incorporated into their clown looks.
So, I didn’t really expect Kiseki: Dear to Me to be one of the most human portrayals of a certain injury/condition?
All things considered, it’s a low bar compared to the other media I’ve seen with it, but it cleared it amazingly well.
I can’t speak to accuracy, but insofar as it portraying something someone consistently has to deal with, and does, while making accommodations for himself and not being ashamed of those accommodations…
Does anyone have experience with a soda siphon? And more specifically, a soda siphon that made it halfway to 2/3 through its first bottle of seltzer before having no pressure?
Okay. As a former #ScareActor I’m a little put off by an advert that touts a scare attraction having no actors.
Which is fine in and of itself, I guess. But like, scare actors were conflated with jump scares and discomfort.
And that’s just a massive generalization that completely ignores the part where we’re literally performing for visitors, providing the service that was implicitly (and at times, explicitly) asked of us by said visitors.
Allow me to be very clear: it’s never not creepy to me when someone talks about an adult “OWNing” a child.
The particular usage of own implies dominance, control, and aggression, and there’s a word for that when adults in power use those tactics on children.
Abuse.
I’m not keen on celebrating that.
And if that’s not what’s going on, maybe find a different way to describe it.
We have a new song with #KristSingto. I dunno if it'll be the main theme for #TheExMorning, but either way, I'm getting what I hoped for.
Also, I was not prepared for Singto's vocals.
There's something in his tone I like, and find soothing. Someone with better understanding of vocal terminology can probably name it. But as of yet, I'm not that person. :blobcatfingerguns:
@glitchontwitch Timbre may be the word you're looking for.
Krist's vocals in the start are very crisp, that will help with learning :)
