Chocolate. Really cheap, off-brand chocolate is horrific, waxy, and has some weird aftertaste, like mint when it isn’t supposed to be, or ketchup (for real).
Hours after she escaped the Columbine High School shooting, 14-year-old Missy Mendo slept between her parents in bed, still wearing the shoes she had on when she fled her math class. She wanted to be ready to run....
Though I’m not originally from there, I moved to CO in '94 with my mom and went to high school there. I joined the army out of high school and was in AIT at the time of the shooting. I’ll never forget the morning after, we were all in formation waiting to get the day started, and the 1st SGT comes out and starts screaming “Who here is from Colorado!?” And of course I’m the only one out of like 300 soldiers to raise my hand, and he runs over to me and just starts screaming “What the fuck is wrong with you people? Are you all mentally insane?” etc etc, just chewing me out. I had NO IDEA what he was talking about because no one had cell phones or computers and we weren’t allowed access to TVs or newspapers. I just keep telling him I didn’t know what he was talking about, then finally he backed off and told everyone what happened. I didn’t know anyone that went to Columbine, but years later among people I met in Colorado, it sort of turned into a six degrees of separation thing where everyone knew someone that knew someone who was there.
I swear all the 1SGs I’ve met are either the coolest person in the world that you wish was your parent, or a complete fucking psycho that gives the impression they wouldn’t give a damn if you died. There’s no in-between. The good ones were amazing and inspiring and you felt honored and privileged to serve with them, and the bad ones made you feel like you were worthless and would never amount to shit.
I also question why they think it needs to have legs, especially only 2. The dogs seem to have way more stability on 4 legs. Why do they insist on making them appear human?
How can we secure a solar eclipse induced apocalypse next time? More virgin sacrifices? Less? Virgins are quite abundant these days. We could go either way…
What happens to the people who actually believed this? Imagine someone quitting their job because “the world is ending on Monday.” They tell all their friends and family goodbye. They stop paying bills. Then Monday rolls around and…they’re still here. Now what? Do they go beg for their job back? How do they face their friends and family again? It sounds so embarrassing.
I just imagine someone trying to get their job back and their former boss laughing in their face. Maybe this is how some people become homeless (because I presume they are mentally unstable to begin with).
I dunno if it’s considered “bad”, but I personally hate when one of the characters gets amnesia, or the group meets a character that has amnesia. It just feels like a laziness by the author who can’t think of any other way to make a storyline interesting.
Finished Starsight by Brandon Sanderson. Second book in Cytoverse series. Loved the way the series progressed, though didn’t liked the post-ending much. Going to start the novella soon....
The Mad Ship by Robin Hobb. It’s the second book in her Liveship trilogy. It’s much better than the first one, which was very slow to start.
I aim to read all her books in The Realm of the Elderlings series eventually (current book I’m on is #5). She’s not my most favorite writer, but she’s up there.
I was the thinest and fittest I’ve ever been in my life and I felt invincible, had tons of energy, could eat whatever I wanted and drink like a fish and still wake up early the next day without a hangover. God, I miss that body.
I was one of those 80s latchkey kids with very little supervision growing up. I stole a lot of stuff, from stores, from my friends, from school. I stole change from my parents to buy candy. I would lead my friends on wild goose chases through abandoned buildings and vacant construction sites. We shattered windows and set fires. I would go through my parent’s belongings and find presents they’d hidden for Christmas, carefully open them, play with them, then put them back as I found them.
I was never caught doing any of it. I was a little shit, and it’s one of the many reasons I’ll never have my own kids, because I worry they’ll be just like me or worse.
