The next version (1.10.39) of will include a option to use Apple Translate as your primary translation source. If you had „always use DeepL“ set in the previous version this should be reflected after you’ve updated.

@Mordoukna @IceCubesApp Nope, did not know about that, will look at it soon.

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@Mordoukna I don’t know when @dimillian will finish up the release, but I think I’ll be able to fix that today.
That’s btw also a problem with our Apple Translate option.

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@Mordoukna @dimillian The problem is fixed, but I don’t think it’s gonna be in the next version.

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@apexnasi @Mordoukna @dimillian Translation of alt text of a viewed post isn’t possible yet.
Apple Translate won’t be usable for translation of your own alt-texts because we can’t access the translation, we can just say „open a translation sheet with this text“, but have no clue what’s the result.

davidbures, to swift
@davidbures@mstdn.social avatar

I have a stupid Swift question:

I always had the impression that using .prefix on array does something like "take the first n elements, and if there are fewer than n, just take however many there are".

In that case, what's the difference between .prefix(upTo: n) and .prefix(n)? .prefix(upTo: n) can still crash with an Index out of Range exception, while .prefix(n) doesn't.

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@davidbures I think the upTo-version does technically get a index, while the other version gets a length. Both versions seem to be available for all collections: the other version has a complexity of O(1) for RandomAccessCollection, O(k) else, while the upTo-version is said to always have a complexity of O(1).
I’m assuming there’s some internal difference.

dimillian, to SwiftUI
@dimillian@mastodon.social avatar

This is how far you should go to split your complex views. You'll get better performances by doing minimal struct with as few dependencies as possible. This is how many views I have for one post row in Ice Cubes.

Screenshot of a social media post with a user expressing excitement about Threads integrating with ActivityPub and Mastodon, featuring a link to an article from The Verge. The preview image of the article is pink with purple abstract.

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@dimillian Another advantage: The compiler is very unhappy if it has to compile one massive body-var, it very often shows completely unrelated and unhelpful errors. If the view is broken down in at least multiple vars or multiple view-structs, it’s able to compile them one by one and give much more precise error messages (and the autocomplete works much better and more reliable, too)

I upgraded an project to use 12 for image loading. All works well, but it spams my log with a ton of stuff I am not interested in, and I can not find out where to turn this off. Help?

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@gernot @gernot The solution that comes to my mind is to fork and manually change it. That’s obviously not a very good solution, but I haven’t worked with nuke for quite a while and don’t know the intricacies of it.
Maybe ask @a_grebenyuk himself?

havhingstor,

I have to say, is now significantly faster than it was at the start / a couple of months ago. Especially the somewhat new media viewer has made quite a difference. I think it's now a very good example of what can be accomplished with . @dimillian (and other contributors) have done a good job 👍

Mac app update got rejected…
Is it really that hard to just click the app icon in the dock?

Also got rejected for using com.apple.security.network.server. Isn’t this needed for CloudKit?

Also, if both these issues are the case, why didn’t you guys flag this on my first app release? 😂

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@JTostitos @techhub.social I personally like it when the main window can be reopened through a menu item. This can be easily automated or done using a keyboard shortcut.

OK. I’m stuck. This is something I’ve never had/tried to do, and it seems simple enough. How do I bind a dictionary value using the key in SwiftUI?

@SergKoren You might be able to create a manual binding by specifying getter and setter

By 2024, the USB-C port will be mandatory for all portable electronic devices in the EU.

This means that you will soon be able to recharge most of your devices with the same charger, making piling up bundles of cables a thing of the past.

Not only will this make your life easier, but it will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and e-waste.

Learn more about the common charger here: https://europa.eu/!hwjj3G

I'm telling your: By the iOS 17 release, @IceCubesApp will probably be bumped to iOS 17 only for future updates. It's working fine as is on iOS 16 so it's fine. I want to keep it a good SwiftUI demo project, so there is so many iOS 17+ only new thing that would make it a dealbreaker.

havhingstor,
@havhingstor@mstdn.social avatar

@dimillian @IceCubesApp I agree, I’m personally also very interested in the new changes introduced yesterday. Maybe we should keep the iOS 16 Version running (if Mastodon would change in some way), but especially new features could probably be implemented with new features (if all that‘s even possible with the App Store, maybe through compiler flags, I’m not that experienced in this field)
