@jon I say this all the time. The bike rack is not a place we need to innovate, this model is perfect alre… actually a second bar a bit below the top one allows more locking options and prevents chain locks from falling all the way to the ground.. but other than that minor quibble, the fiets niets is the final stage of bike rack perfection we just need to put more of them everywhere.

I've fallen into "No Man's Sky"! I made it to the space station, and have selected an avatar that truly resembles what I look like... on the inside.

I now have a glowing ball for a head, which seems to be held in place by rotating electromagnets. Magnificent!

#NMS was created for PC but the #VR adaption (which I'm playing) is not at all bad. It's really... quite... addictive. I played for 4 hours and I'm eying my battery and wondering if I could hop on for a few minutes... before... bed...

My partner has been getting bloody cuts from one of my pots.. and after a deep dive through the internet and my pots and pans drawer I've discovered that several premium brands of pots leave multi-ply edges un-welded. The result? After years of putting them in the dishwasher (which they claim to be rated for) the aluminum layer corrodes and recedes, leaving razor-sharp stainless edges sticking out. Here are some photos so you know what to look for when buying pots.

This is my most-used pot, that has gone through the dishwasher almost daily for years. You can see how corroded and recessed the aluminum layer is. This is razor sharp and will cut your family and also the coating on your dishwasher rack.
This is how an edge should look. The stainless layers are welded together so the aluminum is not exposed. This pot has also spent years being sent through the dishwasher almost daily and is still smooth and safe.

We're looking to add a two-wheeled to the family and there is soooo much choice*.

Somehow I keep coming back to this excellent machine though. It can fit an entire kindergarten but also works well to get rid of diapers or do forestry stuff!

(we'll probably end up with something else)

@Pepijn @mastobikes This seems like the sort of thing that should exist in NL: a dealership of just cargo bikes with lots of different brands, so you can go test-drive them all. We have a subscription with Cargoroo, so I have experience with Urban Arrows (they're great!), but that's it.

@jon Hey, when you’re done with trains can you do ferries?? We’re trying to avoid flying and are going from Amsterdam to Ibiza. Rail portion of the trip went great, but the Barcelona to Ibiza ferry has been a mess and we haven’t even boarded yet. If you look up reviews of GNV and Trasmed you can get a taste of the misery, but here’s the absurd bit.. they’re going to make us take a BUS to that boat outside across the street.

Dear lazy web, I’m on a DB train on my way to Copenhagen. They’re predicting delays that that will mean I miss my connection in Fredericia (Denmark). Should I proactively stop in Hamburg for the night where there are plenty of hotels? Or is Fredericia big enough that I should be able to find a place easily? (I’m carrying a very heavy pack plus another bag so I can’t item-quest long distances on foot looking for a hotel.)

Anyone know how to bulk-delete a bazillion calendar entries? Ran my usual medication reminder shortcut after the iOS 17 update and for some reason it did an infinite loop. I’m afraid of what’s going to happen when they all try to send a notification at the same time 😭 I think I’m going to have to nuke the whole calendar. @viticci @johnvoorhees

Here I am, once again in an awkward situation. I'm trying to understand the readout from the unix word count utility, but I seem to be missing the man page because nothing comes up on my desktop.

And I almost typed "man wc" into duckduckgo.

But I stopped myself in time. I don't think I would enjoy the results as much as the time before when I was in a similar situation and typed in "man abs".

In Dutch the acronym for #autism spectrum disorder is ASS. I can mostly handle this, but every now and then my therapist puts up a picture like this and I burst out laughing, and then I have to apologize for being an 8 year old.

Why is it when you put a bunch of sheets and pillowcases in the dryer with a duvet cover, the duvet cover swallows everything else in the dryer and rolls it all into a tight ball so after a full cycle nothing is actually dry?

@gemeenteamsterdam There's a sharp bit of concrete sticking up in the fietspad at De Clercqstraat and Da Costakade. We couldn't avoid it in time and it gave us a flat ☹️ I realize this is a temporary lane, but maybe this hazard could be smoothed over or ground down?
