Wondering about how JAWS would have been presented, if it was a large knitted chicken instead of a deadly shark.

The Rector of the University of Glasgow, a Palestinian witness to war crimes, is now banned from entering both Germany and France and, it would seem, the whole of Europe.

hypolite,

@liaizon @alanferrier That’s a benefit and drawback of the Schengen space. You’re free to go through it once you’re in, but apparently any country can refuse entry no matter where from.

hypolite,

@twit_terrorist @liaizon @alanferrier It's a complicated topic regarding Germany's history but long story short is that they'd rather side with Israel no matter what, even against Jewish voices.

hypolite,

@aintasenatorson @liaizon @alanferrier Are you aware of the Schengen space?

has a well-oiled machinery when it comes to weather events.

HK Observatory issues weather warnings: Amber rain, red rain, black rain, monsoon, typhoon T1, T3, T8, T10

Schools, employers, government and private services have well-documented standards for when they'll be open, be closed, offer limited service etc, depending on weather signal and timing.

The city thankfully made a decision relatively early on, before adding millions of people, to invest in separate systems for rain drainage and waste sewage. The drainage has margins for even the most extreme weather events.

hypolite,

@clacke Not a huge one, but it is one. In its insane search for maximum efficiency, capitalism loses the ability to handle events that stray away from the average. It’s the greedy version of “It’s going to be fine”

@helpers I updated my OS from Debian 11 to 12 (finally) and when I did, apache2 broke. I've got it reinstalled, but I'm 99% certain it's missing required modules. (see: https://social.jlamothe.net for the error I'm encountering). Is anyone able to help me hunt down which modules I'm still missing?

hypolite,

@jlamothe The error is non-specific, you would have to look at the error log (/var/log/apache2/error.log by default on Debian) to figure it out.

hypolite,

@me @jlamothe Yay, welcome back!

There is genocides going on in DRC, pictures and videos from there are so explicit to be shared here. There are alot of people participating in that role of killings, here is a list:

  1. Congolese themselves( M23 and other rebels)
  2. Congolese government.
  3. Rwanda, Uganda and to some extent Kenya.
Multinational companies worth billion of dollars are many with China and Canada playing central role.
Two powerful unofficial individuals I blame are Dan Getler (search him) and Joseph Kabila.
hypolite,

@FrankFrank I can’t pretend to understand why you are pro-genocide, but do you really have to demonstrate it publicly in unrelated threads?

"A study I carried out took common Footprint and related figures and derived the conclusion that if the world’s 2050 expected population were to share natural resources equally we would all receive about one-ninth of the per capita amount we in rich countries get now, and if economic growth continues at present rates the fraction would more than halve by 2050."

https://goodmenproject.com/featured-content/what-is-to-be-done-thoughts-on-degrowth-strategy/

hypolite,

@Misslemon @gerrymcgovern Because these very visible over-consumption behaviors are a minority, and don't account for that much in the global resource consumption. On the other hand, mass meat production can only be reduced if "we" under-mediatized people stop eating in large enough numbers.

The super rich are definitely wrong examples and set dangerous goals for others, but their actual consumption is a rounding error. For example banning all private jets worldwide would have a negligible effect on greenhouse gas emissions. I'd still support this kind of ban but not for the actual effect on the environment.

At the park with my kids. A group of older kids (8-10ish?) are playing Among Us, which appears to be Mafia Tag, where you secretly make someone IT, they all play together, and people can die, then they vote like mafia. If they figure out who is It they play tag with a safety spot.

I am so fucking jealous of this group of kind accepting kids, who are stopping to help and play with my four year old and two year old, while also playing the coolest tag variant in history.

The Kids Are Doing Amazing

hypolite,

@silverwizard The kids have always been alright, then they get beaten out of shape by society, often by their own parents, sometimes literally. 😔

<s>Two</s> Three more questions. Please answer both!

  1. When were the "good old days" of the net?
hypolite,

@molly0xfff I believe I see what you are going for, and I have indeed a personal "good old Internet days" period between 2003 and 2009 when I was in the 21-30 age range, but for me it isn't indicative of the general "good old internet days" that ended more recently for me with the increased availability of text and image generators just a few years ago including with the release of GPT-3.

It's becoming more and more common that I can't search-fetch a post. Reposting it from another place brings it here and then I can search and find it.

I'm guessing this is because more sites are enabling authorized fetch and Friendica hasn't yet implemented it ... for search specifically? Otherwise I shouldn't get the reposts either?

Not pushing anyone to do anything, it's not a weird corner case, I'm sure the relevant people are aware and it's in the backlog, and a fix will arrive in due time.

hypolite,

@clacke Thanks, I was able to reproduce the issue but I don't know off-hand why it's failing, I opened a GitHub issue to track this more formally: github.com/friendica/friendica…
