<s>Two</s> Three more questions. Please answer both!

    1. When were the "good old days" of the net?
    hypolite,

@molly0xfff I believe I see what you are going for, and I have indeed a personal "good old Internet days" period between 2003 and 2009 when I was in the 21-30 age range, but for me it isn't indicative of the general "good old internet days" that ended more recently for me with the increased availability of text and image generators just a few years ago including with the release of GPT-3.

If you've ever found yourself missing the "good old days" of the , what is it that you miss? (Interpret "it" broadly: specific websites? types of activities? feelings? etc.) And approximately when were those good old days?

No wrong answers — I'm working on an article and wanted to get some outside thoughts.

    hypolite,

@molly0xfff I miss having a greater confidence what i read online was written by a human, even as part of their job. Also I miss when Google and Mozilla were sticking to what they were best known for, respectively web search engine and web browser.

Even knowing about high tech's externalities doesn't prepare for firsthand accounts like these. This is the price other people and their environment are paying for us to enjoy our tech gizmos we're encouraged to purchase and replace at an increasing pace.

One of kid's classmates had a surprising anti-gay opinion, so he's been asking around a bit where people stand. Thankfully, that kid seems to be the outlier.

Made me remember that time half a life ago when I accidentally "came out" to a friend ... I admitted my interest for a woman with an ambiguous nickname and hilarity ensued.

My friend's response was so overwhelmingly excited and supportive that I promised that if I ever discovered I was gay, I was sure to go to him first with the news. 🥰

    hypolite,

@clacke This reminds me a recent incident where another kid in my child's 4th grade class (9-10 years old) started asking his classmates which side of the Israel-Palestine conflict they were on. 😬

The problem wasn't so much that they asked but that they offered only two sides, which is highly reductive view of this conflict.

I am amazed at people who believe they can successfully convince atheists with scientific PHD that "Science is hiding Angels from us" .

    hypolite,

@kingu I'm not sure scientific PHDs say anything about personal faith. Many scientists have been trying to bridge the gap between their professional studies and their personal spiritual beliefs.

It's becoming more and more common that I can't search-fetch a post. Reposting it from another place brings it here and then I can search and find it.

I'm guessing this is because more sites are enabling authorized fetch and Friendica hasn't yet implemented it ... for search specifically? Otherwise I shouldn't get the reposts either?

Not pushing anyone to do anything, it's not a weird corner case, I'm sure the relevant people are aware and it's in the backlog, and a fix will arrive in due time.

    hypolite,

@clacke Thanks, I was able to reproduce the issue but I don't know off-hand why it's failing, I opened a GitHub issue to track this more formally: github.com/friendica/friendica…
