I’ve known him from Parliament Funcadelic. But this shows how versatile he is.

I'll be happy when player apps support Podcast AP for managing my subscriptions across devices and apps. That might be a way out because those apps might consider subscriptions to be a lock in mechanism.

Since was sold, I have a bad feeling about it.

I'm normally not listening to music in the morning but a podcast can help as well.

Mozilla should definitely do this. And then when it goes nowhere, everyone will finally agree that PWAs were never a great platform for mobile apps. Right? https://indieweb.social/@whalecoiner/111940727614198057

@iamlayer8@mastodon.social avatar

@gruber yeah … no!
To me, this is a straw man argument. It’s not „either or“.
This is a big to EU citizens. And if they get through with it, it’s a pretty good sign that a) Apple is a gate keeper and b)the is too weak.
This one thing really made me start considering if it’s good staying in the Apple ecosystem.

… only that market forces don‘t work - especially in an oligopoly/monopoly market. That‘s where regulation cshould come in.

I've been wondering if we'll see a number of 3rd-party PWA site wrapper apps for visionOS at launch. Where you can create a rich bookmark for various websites to more easily separate their windows and use them.

I explored this briefly for Widgetsmith but since it would require making the app 17+ (unrestricted web access) and I suspect Safari would get this ability natively at some point soon it never get promoted to a proper feature but would seem like a useful tool for the initial period.

A screenshot showing an interactive website book mark running within widgetsmith.

@_Davidsmith
Maybe not in the context of Widgetsmith, but I think there is a place for a good app on all platforms. and were good entry points but are not maintained anymore. is only halfway there. Individual browser instances is better. And it does not look like Apple will do this well.

I don’t see a stand alone TouchID button or a Magic Trackpad with TouchID.
I’d like to see a device by apple inspired by streamdeeck / loupedeck including a TouchID button - maybe including a Touch Bar. But yeah, that won’t come either.

Maybe even a feature showing a thread as a single post (knowing this may be harder to implement).

What concerns me about the / from a user‘s perspective, is the inflation of identities that will occur as soon as you want to use feature that the platform you started on does not offer.
I am aware that this also can happen, when you use closed services, but …
A) this on of the things that make Google or Meta attractive.
B) federation to me implies the integration of several services under one identity.
So, is a something that is being considered?

iamlayer8,
@iamlayer8@mastodon.social avatar

User Story:
As a user of multiple services I want to be able to post from these services using one identity, so that other users that follow me can see all my updates in their timeline.
This has the benefit for my subscribers of following easily one person across many federated services and therefore seing all of my content.

iamlayer8,
@iamlayer8@mastodon.social avatar

Acceptance criteria:

  • I can configure multiple services that use to use one federated identity
  • When another user follows this identity, they see all my posts on those services in their timeline
iamlayer8,
@iamlayer8@mastodon.social avatar

@mariusor
Thanks a lot for your response. But I'm not sure if what you describe is a federated identity.

I was already assuming that an ActivityPub client should be able to show diverse content - maybe not optimal at the start.
Partially that is the case, e.g. showing longer articles.

iamlayer8,
@iamlayer8@mastodon.social avatar

@mariusor
That’s exactly the point I’m addressing.

So, this could be mitigated, if one server offered a combination of services, e.g. microblog, blog, picture sharing and video, but not across servers.

I believe this is a usability issue - even for IT minded people like myself.

iamlayer8,
@iamlayer8@mastodon.social avatar

@mariusor
Now I really feel confused. My scenario is this:
User A wants to post on Mastodon.social, Pixelfed and Peertube.
User B wants to follow user A - see all their posts on all services - by subscribing once.

So I'm looking for a way to abstract from individual account on individual servers to a person in the fediverse.

It’s essentially not paying your bill and I condemn it.
Unrelated to that, automatic gratuity is just a form of of obscuring the real price - like displaying the price before taxes in stores.
Making services workers rely on tips is another dumb thing to do. Employees should be paid sufficiently so that tips can be added as an individual appreciation.
This irks every time I’m in North America.
