I'm diving into #PodcastAP, subscribin to my podcast via #OPML export. Looking forward to finding out how it works right now - gettting notifications about new episodes and sharing those in the #fediverse.
I'll be happy when #podcast player apps support Podcast AP for managing my subscriptions across devices and apps. That might be a way out because those apps might consider subscriptions to be a lock in mechanism.
Since #PocketCasts was sold, I have a bad feeling about it.
Excellent new feature in PocketCasts 7.61 !! Thank you #Pocketcasts for adding support for episode images in the RSS feed! (see screenshots attached, and the Setting to enable the feature) Cc: @ichris@elsie@chidgey
#JRE is a real #podcast again. Looks like all the old episodes are available too. So what is #Spotify paying #JoeRogan for now? Maybe he'll get back to hosting lefties sometimes. #podcasting
I think so. Every episode shows up in #Pocketcasts and it's apparently in iTunes too. Not sure where the #RSS feed is posted though. Maybe his website?
'AntennaPod is a podcast player that is completely open. The app is open-source and you can subscribe to any RSS feed. AntennaPod is built by volunteers without commercial interest, so it respects your privacy while giving you full control.'
Time for the mandatory screenshots of my year of #music and #podcast consumption. As usual, my podcast list is missing #TWiT and some other shows as I often watch them live or vod on YouTube.

@andycarolan I use ListenBox to subscribe to YouTube channels as podcasts. You can choose an audio or video feed on a per channel basis, subscribe in any podcast app (I use Pocket Casts for video and Overcast for audio) and you don’t get any of YouTube’s ads.

I cant even remember exactly why i abandoned #Pocketcasts. It was so long ago. But I believe it was bc it was clunky with binge listening; it was very annoying if you wanted to play a fiction series from the show's beginning, where the player defaulted to play the most recent episodes first. Maybe that's not an issue w it anymore...? ::fingerscrossed::
I do remember being disappointed with the quality of an app I had to pay $9 for.
@voxpelli Not in EU, but glad that someone has some recourse.
I'm using #PocketCasts (which is really nice, actually. $15/yr isn't horrible) I'd love a self-hosted alternative with similar features (cross-platform, import/export OPML, #AndroidAuto compatible)
Podcast players must have started to partner somehow with advertisers. I listened to #DotnetRocks by @richcampbell and @carlfranklin and got an advertisement in Finnish.
This is the first time I encounter this. I hope all the revenue goes to the duo and not the #PocketCasts which I used as a player.
I don't mind if the advertisement is a bit more targeted, but revenue should go to creators and not podcast players.
Disovering a few podcasts in recent months that go through all of the efforts of Apple and Google Podcasts, but can't be bothered to show up on Pocket Casts.
Tons of people use Pocket Casts. I guess they're okay with the loss of audience?
Just canceled my #PocketCasts subscription, because, while I always enjoyed the app, the almost quadrupling in subscription cost is a bit insane.
On that note, does anybody know of a nice (preferably open source) #podcast player that has good sync support? Preferably one that has native clients on both #linux and #android. Separate apps that sync together well is also fine.
