Is there any equivalent of notation, technique like state diagrams, or state-transition diagrams in performance arts? In music, dance, theatre?

Like dance notation, Laban movement analysis?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dance_notation

"Dance notation is the symbolic representation of human dance movement and form, using methods such as graphic symbols and figures, path mapping, numerical systems, and letter and word notations"

Life or Debt: The Stranglehold of Neocolonialism and Africa’s Search for Alternatives
https://thetricontinental.org/dossier-63-african-debt-crisis/

Via their new programmes, Structural Adjustment Facility (1986), and then the Enhanced Structural Adjustment Facility (1987), IMF put a singular recipe on the table: privatise economy, including state sector; commodify areas of human life that had up to that point been in public domain; terminate any government deficit financing; & dissolve any barriers on foreign capital investment

Rethinking Employment & Industrialisation in India by Amit Bhaduri

I was reflecting on why do I have this need of seeking folks with unconventional, non-traditional life trajectories, folks who are rebellious, inquisitive and carved out a niche for themselves, by themselves. Folks who not only stood their ground and rebelled but also made something for themselves and I think it’s about courage.

I’ve realized I get along really well with folks who experienced lot of friction in life & after experiencing had to make out something original, independently.

"Hopelessness isn’t natural. It needs to be produced. If we really want to understand this situation, we have to begin by understanding that the last thirty years have seen the construction of a vast bureaucratic apparatus for the creation and maintenance of hopelessness. A kind of giant machine that is designed, first and foremost, to destroy any sense of possible alternative futures"

Ruth, I have a question for you @RuthMalan how might you teach software architecture to academics from fields like this who want to transition to tech by translating their domain knowledge into products?

In what way can we design a syllabus or a roadmap for them that helps them practice all the skills required for them to do that but also to do that in a way that connects their knowledge with our syllabus's assignments/modules/exercises

I just realised Bret Victor has always emphasized the importance of graphic design and information design as key for his concept of dynamic pictures and visual explanations. Its not ui, ixd or hci.

Its plain graphic design and information design but using it to make tacit information explicit.

I think his novelty lies with the way he selects a particular tacit activity and information.

Really sad how we have compartmentalized and created dichotomies for ways of thinking, feeling for "creative" "artistic" pursuits and logical, analytical ones. Sucks that there's a schism between art and science

Ever wonder what if physics, math was taught alongside or via fine arts/performing arts? How interesting the pedagogy would be

Imagine learning about food science, biochemistry along with cooking! or fashion design, sewing, drapery along with Non-Euclidean geometry

Universities and Their Function by Alfred North Whitehead

https://la.utexas.edu/users/hcleaver/330T/350kPEEwhiteheadunivfxtable.pdf

"A university is imaginative or it is nothing - at least nothing useful"

"Imagination can only be communicated by a faculty whose members themselves wear their learning with imagination"

"The whole art in the organisation of a university is the provision of a faculty whose learning is lighted up with imagination"

That's key, an imaginative faculty. Absence of which the purpose of a uni ceases to exist.

What would happen if Japan sells of a major chunk of it's US treasuries (Japan is the largest holder of american debt) with the justification of bolstering its collapsing currency

FYI Japan is in a major debt crises, it's debt is now 263% of it's GDP

And what if after that China follows too by selling of it's holdings as well of US treasuries

Will US still be able to make it's interest payments on its debt AND fund military campaigns abroad?

Can Blind Birds Navigate?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yBMUrlpe5s

Apart from sight birds use

  • Position of sun
  • Cryptochrome : A protein in their eyes sensitive to blue light giving overlay of dark patches whose duration of staying active varies according to strength of earth's magnetic field
  • Tiny magnetites on their beaks
  • Olfactory map

So Soaring Birds like Wandering Albatrosses and Andean Condor catch thermals to fly for long time without flapping while doing all of the above as well!

Someone on twitter long back asked

"If AI actually ends up taking your job, what will you do to make money? Has this thought ever crossed your mind?"

My answer :

Reverse engineering the supply chain of AI and shortlisting industries and domains which AI relies on to operate that are error prone and require constant redirection and modification and then minitiarizing those solutions to serve small scale industries/startups.

Imagine if there was a technique to sketch out a UI like this

Systems map of all attributes, operations of a UI element.

A, B, C , D, E as operations, attributes linked to X UI element's attributes, operations but then they are also linked to K's which would also be to X's

To see how every operation, attribute of a UI element is acting on other element's attributes, operations in all their degree of closeness to each other & what makes certain things closer/remote (more/less relevant) & why

@dahukanna gpt is handy in helping break down skills into subskills for lesson planning.

Prompted it with my project details and then asked it to unpack a craft/technical skill in it's minutiae subskills and then map a set of competencies in a progression, with weekly or biweekly milestones across 3-4 months

Followed up with a prompt to get more granular and this is what it suggested.
