My Mastodon instance is shutting down soon this year, so i'll be migrating to my new account on Calckey sometime today/soon!

I should note that if you'd like to follow me on there, theoretically you probably don't need to if the Mastodon/Calckey account migration feature works correctly. Thank you!

@irfan

Well that's kind of concerning. Wonder what's the reason behind it.

irfanhakim,

@SylvieLorxu @fdroidorg ahh, thank you so much for the very thorough explanation on this. and yea i did expect at least a part of the reasoning behind it to be just the matter of convenience and saving time. have a pleasant day!

just created an account, but found that @megalodon is not yet able to login to it just yet (i think they're working on it). what's an existing way to using calckey and its features on and ?

Jae, to linux

It makes me so, so happy to head to ProtonDB and see most, if not ALL of my library working with . 😊 💞

I truly do love this and wanna stay using for as long as possible. is one of my biggest hobbies, so knowing I can game comfortably on Linux makes me incredibly happy!

irfanhakim,

@Jae ive moved to EndeavourOS (KDE Plasma desktop) from Windows full time on both my work/game machine + HTPC (connected to TV purely for Plex/YouTube/light gaming) for almost a year now and it really has been awesome. I use an Nvidia graphics card too which people keep saying is problematic on Linux, but frankly I've never had any trouble with it.

irfanhakim,

@Jae in my exp w NVIDIA gpu, as long as ure not using Wayland (at least on KDE), all's good. I don't think i'm missing out on anything either being on X11 since it's a lot more mature, n from my observation, Wayland while it is the future, seems more beneficial to laptops than it is on desktops. that being said i am using a newer gpu (3080 Ti).

my partner's PC has also been migrated from Win 11 to EndeavourOS + KDE (on 1650 Super) n it works great!

i've not heard of but it's really cool to see that they're incentivising the creation of third party apps!

Have you played with your Steam Deck in the past 24 hours?

irfanhakim,

@pezhore @boilingsteam ahh i look forward to get that game some day, and also Rift of the NecroDancer that's coming, both of them look really good. will get them as soon as they get on sale.

irfanhakim,

@pezhore @boilingsteam same here. just finished Nier Automata recently, and bought Nier Replicant. I'm also currently playing Elden Ring and RE2 Remake, both of which I enjoy but could not play for as long as I want to, to make progress cos they stress me out lol.

irfanhakim, to random

has worked wonderfully for me for a long time, yet now it's been breaking on me for reasons i do not know 🥹

my parents need a sync button. i always get a message from my dad abt something, and receive another very similar message from my mom a few minutes later 😂

[Workaround Available] Controller Input/Settings shenanigans. Steam tries to be smart about this, eg. Chrome, so automatically use the "Web Browser" layout. This normally works but in this case for some reason it uses "Gamepad" and the browser layout is missing. Trying to apply other layouts in this case does nothing, and even the controller settings isn't displayed at all here eventho it's available. I rarely come across this but it has been happening for a long time.

Google Chrome (non-Steam) app on the Steam Deck interface, showing the controller settings using the "Gamepad" layout instead of its intended "Web Browser" layout. Attempt at applying a "Web Browser" layout from the "Community Layout" section (since for some reason it is missing from the "Templates: Layouts created by Valve" section) does nothing. Two controller sections were shown in this interface, DualShock 4 (current controller) and the Steam Deck's, but navigating to the Steam Deck's controller settings changes nothing and still shows the DualShock 4's.

irfanhakim,

Workaround: In the same controller settings, under the "Quick Settings" menu, set the "Right Trackpad Behavior" to "Create a Mode Shift". After doing this, my controller layout had somehow changed to the "Web Browser" layout again (although it uses my own and not the official 's which is still missing for no good reason, sigh). At this point you should be able to apply different controller layouts, and even the controller scheme will now show properly. Why this works? No idea.

Chrome on Steam Deck interface in the Controller Settings section. After encountering the earlier mentioned bug, navigate to the "Right Trackpad Behavior" setting on the same page and set it to "Create a Mode Shift". After doing this the controller settings works as intended, and the "Right Trackpad Behavior" setting can be changed back to whatever else.

Ever since i started including alt texts to all media posted on and , i've never stopped doing it, but i'd be lying if i didn't say it had added quite a huge friction to me posting here if a photo/video is involved. It'd be great if there was a local/client-based feature that uses to draft alt texts for u which u then simply need to adjust/improve, that'd be really cool. sort of like @IceCubesApp's feature of hashtagging keywords on ur post automatically.

irfanhakim,

@rakyat yea it's defo possible, tho not sure if its implementation would be close to trivial. i'd honestly be happy even if it would only work w images. So far, AI is a big win for accessibility since it enables people/businesses to do stuffs they previously had no resources to (eg. transcribing/translating videos). This is a reversed situation, but similar, is GrabFood (Singapore?) experimenting the use of AI to visualise product listings with no included picture.

irfanhakim,

@rakyat i agree 100% haha, idk what snapchat does but yes AI is everywhere at the moment even in questionable places lol. IceCubes got some loud noises when it first implemented the "auto hashtag" thing using ChatGPT but fortunately the dev didn't mind it bcos it is a good (experimental) feature. I also think building it in the OS or application is the logical next step, instead of having to do these neat things on our own. dk how soon would that come tho.

  • irfanhakim,

    @dansup i honestly wouldve included just jack in that example lol cos yes, elons one of the rare idiots that wld think such an app to be a competition. which i guess explains ur comparison, but i still think it isn't a fair one, since elon's a rare exception. to the public, people like me, wld see no reason whatsoever for there to be competition betwn twitter/masto app A and app B. + ur comparison using samsung ad published on an iphone is totally different n unrelated w ivory vs mastodon, no?

    irfanhakim,

    @dansup dude, im sure ive been civilised thruout this short "argument". i like ur work and im an avid supporter of pixelfed. i dont think ure doing any bad at all from just this one post, i, just like one more reply to ur post, think ur comparison of samsung-apple (two competing companies) and ivory-mastodon (3P vs FOSS mastodon app) might not make the most sense. regardless, i agree w ur actual intention of the post. fediverse is great, n our diverse selection of apps is our best strength.

    irfanhakim,

    @dansup i know, i did understand ur original meaning of the post, i just think the comparison didn't fully capture what ure trying to convey but it's fine, i dont think anyones at fault here. i'm really sorry if i might have offended u, do know it's never my intention. i will delete my "quote" post too 😔 have a good day/evening. (and keep up the good work, my partner n i are very much looking fwd to stories on pixelfed!)

    irfanhakim,

    @dansup ive deleted it anyway, i hope thats okay. thank u so much for being open to feedback, and others' opinion. take care! :)

    irfanhakim,

    Thread of ( Stable) I've encountered for me to better keep an eye on

    irfanhakim,

    [Workaround Available] The right controller layout is not used for the (non) app on the interface. The official "Web Browser" layout created by not showing. The secondary controller settings (in this case, the Steam Deck's) isn't showing properly. Controller layout applied does not apply. A big mess of a that would fix right up after a restart, but another simpler workaround does exist.

    irfanhakim, (edited ) to random

    Experimenting further into this forsaken bug of non- apps either not being able to exit properly or simply not recognising that they've exited. Each of them were, twice, opened n exited to see how many would behave right "reliably" (spoiler: 0 🥳).

    Success rate:

    YouTube (EmuDeck 2.1.0 Cloud Service) = 1/2
    Plex = 1/2
    Spotify = 1/2
    Netflix (Chrome Kiosk + URL) = 1/2
    Google Chrome (Kiosk mode) = 0/2
    Signal = 0/2
    WhatsApp (Chrome Kiosk + URL) = 0/2

    irfanhakim,

    I'm thinking that this controller layout (or whatever other layout really), can be repurposed to exit "regular" apps that have been added to the interface. Except instead of utilising Control + W, we use Alt + F4. So far though, idk if i'm adding this shortcut wrongly to my controller layout, but my Alt + F4 shortcut does not work on these regular apps such as Signal or Spotify/Plex (app version), despite Alt + F4 working on desktop mode. Any ideas?
