"The nearly 20-year-old tech publication Engadget is laying off staff and restructuring editorial teams today with a new focus around traffic and revenue growth"
I'm sure Engadget will be a great place after this. I haven't been on there in years.
Something that annoys me to no end about Google Calendar is that when I add a location, it searches Google Maps for the business or whatever, finds and displays the street address, but then does not store the full address in the event! It only stores the name of the venue, or part of the street address, such that when I tap it later or sometimes shows the wrong place!
Apple Calendar, on the other hand, stores the whole thing, which makes so much more sense!
@mattcen If there is one thing Google is good at, other than killing products, it's totally sucking at how the products they don't kill interoperate with each other.
Alright well I couldn't take any more of the stupid, awful, anti-trans, borderline racist, thinly-veiled political bullshit and dumbass gays playing the victim of their own drama suggested threads posts that were constantly popping up in my IG feed. And somewhat ironically, the most recent one was about how to make your life drastically better by deactivating or deleting your Threads account, so I did the former and at least for now the posts have stopped showing up.
All this to say I'm feeling over IG again because of this stupid Meta BS, but at the same time that really sucks because so many businesses around here only keep an active IG presence AND I actually have found IG ads to be the only ads that are ever relevant and useful. Which is a double-edged sword right there because I've spent a lot of money buying shit I found out about there, lol.
So…Substack management and founders are openly saying they don’t care about monetizing and boosting literal Nazis on their platform. He couldn’t even say he wouldn’t have a literal neo-Nazi on his podcast again because their point of view has cache in the US now, the irony of platforming by people like them being lost. Independent creators who use Substack I implore you to use the option that lets you port your content and get it hosted on Ghost if for no other reason to to keep your own conscience clear. #Substack Note by Hamish McKenzie on Substack
@hankg I just can't even with this bullshit. Oh, yes, it's always important to hear the "views and arguments" of people who want to literally exterminate whole races and other groups of people. Like, yeah, of course, as a fairly rational and intelligent person, I'm sure you have some valid arguments about other people not deserving to exist that would totally open my mind to saying "why, yes! you should move forward with plans to ensure millions of other people you don't like will die!"
@yesjohn Yes, the "HOW DARE YOU, just go someplace else if you don't like it here!!" when all someone did was suggest changing the icon that shows when a post is followers-only or some shit.
Edit / Update: Thank you for the tremendous outpouring of support. 🙌
I have set up a new home on Mastodon: @RiversideBryan
I'd be thrilled if you considered following me there as well. 🙏
In any case, be on the lookout for other folks trying to reconnect with their lost friends. Boost their toots to help them reach the full Fediverse while they rebuild. 🫂🥰
