@simondh Ik heb twee jaar op Sicilië gewoond toen ik 5/6/7 was (mid jaren 70). Zoveel moois gezien, gelukkig herinner ik me veel (itt tot mijn broertje die 2 jaar jonger is). Veel hekken waren er nog niet, je kon bijna alles aanraken.

@simondh Het hele eiland was puur historie en natuur, zoveel moois. Het is veel drukker geworden. Wij woonden in Fontane Bianche, met een strand langs een baai. Dat is nu helemaal volgebouwd en grotendeels stukken strand die alleen toegankelijk zijn voor hotelgasten. Bijna alle historische sites zijn afgezet. Maar ook Cave Grande waar we vrij konden kamperen, daar kun je nu ook alleen maar in met een gids. Is voor het behoud, snap ik, maar is wel een gevolg van het drukker worden.

@Hardlopertje Jazeker. En je ziet dat het nog flink naar beneden komt ook. Als het een paar graden warmer was dan was het regen dus ik vind dit niet zo erg. Vanmiddag zal het wel weg zijn.

@metin "Global warming" is inderdaad een verwarrende term en zou beter "climate change" heten. Dan nog is climate change een gegeven door de gehele geschiedenis van de aarde, dus nog beter is iets als "human inflicted climate change". Dan nog: de aarde en natuur overleven het wel, het is de mens die er zelf niet tegen kan.
En ja, het is dichter bij de polen merkbaarder door de grote verschillen. Waar de grens tussen koud en warm wat gelijkmatiger was zoals een cirkel rondom de pool, is die cirkel nu overal ingedeukt, naar boven en naar beneden. Op deze hoogte merken we regelmatig de overgang van koud naar warm.
Gelukkig hebben wij, persoonlijk, meer last van te hoge temperaturen en vinden we de kou OK. Daarom zijn we erg blij dat we hier zitten. 😀

@gmc @metin Kan me voorstellen. De luftvärmepumps is hier de meestgebruikte warmtebron samen met de hout- en pelletkachel natuurlijk. Verwarmen is idd heel efficiënt vanwege de inverter buiten. Verkoeling is nog wel vrij duur. We verkoelen als het heel warm is 's avonds een uur voor het slapen gaan.

In the 2000s, I used to give lectures in working with 3ds Max and the V-Ray renderer. My students were mostly architectural visualizers.

Here I'm giving a 3ds Max + V-Ray workshop at the Dutch EUE 3D event, in a cool old bunker. 🙂

Watched Dune part two yesterday.

Impressive visuals and a great atmosphere again.

What keeps me from giving both Dunes a top rating though is a certain sense of detachment. The film feels like watching an impressive desert dream from a distance. Characters are almost robotically cool and skilled, or psychopathically evil and skilled, but there's a lack of character depth, of identifiable human warmth and emotions, and of humor, which are important properties for characters to become likeable.

Let's have a short discussion on 'when will you follow someone' on the especially when it comes to and

There is a catch22 situation here, where politicians and people of the press say 'we are not going to use the Fediverse, since we cannot get enough reach there' and people here on the Fediverse say 'we will only follow people who are actually active here'.

I think that if we really want to make the Fediverse a place where we can find all the news and all the political activity we should take action to overcome this catch22 situation: if there is an official account of a politicion or a press-outlet, even if they are not (very) active: follow them!

It does not hurt you (if there is no posts, then there is also nothing to not like) and it will give them the chance to see that there is an active audience here that is worth spending time on.

Oh, and when they do get active: treat them like you want to be treated, welcome them with a warm heart and encourage them to be even more active.

@eWalthert @FontsInUse Especially for people with English as a second language (like me), the distinction between terms like lettering, type, font, and font face are hard to understand. Perhaps a post on these (and perhaps an explanation on related terms like serif, slab, stem, etc.) might be useful. I would find it useful, for sure.

OK so it’s almost 4pm. I’m tired. My main options are a) take a short walk to buy some chocolate b) have a bath then get changed into loungewear for the evening c) nap (although it’s probably too late in the day not to affect my sleep tonight). Idk what else I can do

Ha, ik kwam wel een geinig probleem tegen. Ik heb al 20 jaar een .info-domein. Ik kom nog steeds sites tegen die een TLD van 4 karakters als niet-geldig zien!

Finished The Terror season 1. A grim, gripping series, with impressive art direction and wardrobes, convincing performances, and Ridley Scott as an executive producer. Recommended.

I haven't seen The Terror season 2 (yet) though. It's a separate story, and I noticed that it has received lower ratings. But I enjoyed season 1.

I've started drinking coffee relatively late, and have a love-hate relationship with it. Sometimes I happily quit drinking coffee for a while, and sometimes I feel so tired that I really need a coffee energy boost to get things done, even though it's a temporary adrenaline boost with drawbacks.

Lately I'm drinking more green tea to curb my caffeine intake.

Because when addicted I got stomach problems, I went down on coffee. I know drink 2 cups per day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. And I love it, I really enjoy it more than when I drank more.

I take time to make a good cup too. We have a grinder and a French press at the office.

Now trying Mac instead of Windows because Windows made me sadder every day. (This is the office, at home I use Xubuntu.)
Do I understand that even Apple have integrated their Finder as unreplaceable default, just like Microsoft? I find their lack of tweakability sad.
And wait, do I read correctly you cannot switch off sound for notifications?!

I have to switch off sounds per app. Did that but cumbersome.

Commander One installed. No dark mode! Really? (Ah, themes... "System" would have been nice but OK.)
And can it replace Finder as the default file manager?

After a couple of weeks of trying AnySoftKeyboard I have to conclude it has not made my life easier.

Languages are not mixed, I have to switch manually. With three languages it is annoying. Also, the keyboard changes. In English, the apostrophe is somewhere else than in Dutch. I can't seem to unlink a dictionary from a layout.

The swipe is wsy too precise for my far fingers. It does not seem to learn from my mistakes.

I hope to find an alternative. Someone mentioned one from Google?

It's important that I can play tracks by genre (as indicated in the metadata of the MP3s), and in a random order.
