smashed my Pixel 4a screen - repairing it costs the same as a replacement refurb phone (!) Would prefer to buy something more recent for longevity but phones are so big - the newer Pixels are all bigger. Any suggestions for smaller phones? Camera is my top priority

@robinwhittleton thanks yeh was just looking, but the price difference is massive! I've never been comfortable walking around with >£500 in my pocket to get broken or stolen

I really miss my Huawei P9 - by far the best mobile camera I've used - really nice proper bokeh. Really sad that they lost Google support

@joelanman That only says where you check out, not where you are actually going.
The majority never go to a tube station, that's just part of their route.

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@dletorey That's what they were asking though, where you're getting off

Just got surveyed on tfl for where people are going. Surely they know that data already from beeping in and out?

@nickcolley It's great! Looks weirdly flat when it's on, cool effect. Cheap too, I was thinking you could get a bunch, would be good for a stage show or something

joelanman,

@sarajw @nickcolley Ha exactly what I did though I was thinking living room which is where it is now

🆕 blog! “Review: GreenChef / HelloFresh meal boxes”
★★★⯪☆

I'm a reasonably adventurous eater - but a rather underwhelming cook. So I thought I'd give these "posh ready-meals" a go. The pitch is simple. GreenChef will send you a big box of ingredients and a bunch of recipes to follow. You get exactly 175g of tomatoes, a precise number of lentils, and a sachet […]

@Edent I found gousto to be a good balance of cost, quality, simplicity. Mindful chef also good but pricier

Ghost pigeon. Where a wood pigeon tried to fly through the window. It stunned itself, dropped to the floor and met one of our cats when it got there.

@ewebber I initially thought the print was on the wall, making it one massive bird

joelanman, to ai
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

I was discussing with a friend and he suggested something I've not seen, is anyone doing this? Take the output of the ai then process it for output format, accuracy checking against an API spec, whatever. The second part could even ask the ai for another response if it's not processable.

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@braincell Say for example you always want the output to be JSON, or yaml or whatever. Ai don't always output in exactly what you asked for every time

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@braincell Interesting, what about the checking for correctness? When I've tried asking about an API for example they often end up hallucinating, making up bits of the API which sound feasible but aren't real

I have a hard time having any sympathy for accessibility overlay companies even as they send public apologies.

Because other ones are trying to sue accessibility practitioners to silence them still.

Yes, different companies are different but I see similar motivations.

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@annaecook the apology was performative - there were no actions listed to address the harms they caused, and placed the blame on their marketing(?!) so yeh, no sympathy

New release of the GOV.UK Prototype Kit!

v13.7.0 has various fixes, and it can show a helpful error in the browser for errors where previously it would not have been able to start

wondering if this is possible or has been done before:

extending markdown to render accessible form fields, like

[____] for text
[ ] for checkboxes
( ) for radios

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@itsjoshbruce oh wow that looks really close to what I was thinking! I'll have a play ta, is there an implementation?

one thing I was thinking was to ensure accessibility by eg connecting inputs and labels via for and id

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@itsjoshbruce ah sorry I didnt read far enough, this supports that through explicit code. I'm thinking of making it implicit so you don't have to add that

joelanman,
@joelanman@hachyderm.io avatar

@itsjoshbruce @tanepiper I hadnt actually read it all properly, but it does seem like the radios dont have labels connected via for?
