So I decided to try LocOS -KDE version on the 2014 mac Mini. It was reponsive but just like the heavier KDE neon at some point it ended locking up the GUI while I was doing updates. I could still exit with ALT+F2.

So I guess I need to try the XFCE build.

@santiago LocOS? What is that?

I've spent a good majority of the day moving 750GB of files out of my Google Drive over to my @protonprivacy drive.

I've quit using Google Chrome(long long time ago).
I've quit using Gmail.
I've quit using Google Drive.
I've quit using Google Keep.

The one thing that is just too damn good to quit using that Google makes is Google Photos.

While there are replacements, there's nothing that comes even remotely close to being as good as Google Photos in my opinion. Literally NOTHING!

@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@cliffwade @philipdrobar you could use maybe?

joostruis,
@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@cliffwade @philipdrobar I must admit I do not use it myself but the reason for it existence should be to replace services like Google drive / photos / whatever spiders your data. Perhaps worth looking into it.

@cliffwade @philipdrobar I hear ya. Well not being into the photo managing thing myself but this might be something https://github.com/immich-app/immich

Decided to upgrade to Fedora 40, and I gotta say it's more colourful than its predecessors.

Nice feedback. Did you open a bug and share useful information?

I had the most amazing birthday dinner with my wife @Bianca tonight at Village Tavern here in Winston Salem.

Food was absolutely amazing. Now, it's time to kick back and relax for the rest of the evening!

Photo I took of the NY Strip steak, baked potato and mac and cheese that I had for dinner at Village Tavern.
Photo I took of the carrot cake dessert I had at Village Tavern.
Photo I took of myself and my beautiful wife standing in our backyard!

I don't know what is going on with Linux getting above 4% earlier this year and keeping going, but I like it. I thought it was Steam or ChromeOS, but according to their data it is not. Let's keep on trucking! gamingonlinux.com/2024/04/linu…

So after months of being a huge @Vivaldi fanboy, I'm finally moving away from it. I don't want to, but every update they push this happens. And sometimes I can fix it by deleting a cache file, this time I couldn't. It's just annoying to know that if you get an update, it breaks your browser.

joostruis,
@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@thelinuxcast @Vivaldi Is that GPU cache you must delete in your ~/.config/.. directory?

joostruis,
@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@thelinuxcast @Vivaldi well that is an Electron issue actually, can't blame Vivaldi for it. Also happens with Lens and VSCodium. Think it is LLVM 16 related in combination with AMD Graphics. (Not sure yet)

joostruis,
@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@thelinuxcast Do you happen to know what LLVM version your distro is using there?

joostruis,
@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@thelinuxcast hmm ok. Perhaps I am chasing a "red herring" here but I thought that it had to do with that. Are you using AMD graphics? Perhaps it is related to mesa then. I just wonder. I just moved to LLVM 17 here and I noticed my issue went away, but I also moved to latest mesa...
~ $ vulkaninfo --summary | grep driverVersion
driverVersion = 23.3.3

@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@thelinuxcast ah good to know. I thought it was rather an Electron issue.

I'm a bit frustrated right now...

I've tried to switch from GNOME to KDE on . But when I switched from GDM to SDDM, SDDM won't detect my Nordic keyboard layout. In other words, I can't log in to my PC whilst using SDDM 😑

The solutions I've found online have not helped me... Does anyone here have any idea what might be going on, and what the solution might be?

joostruis,
@joostruis@allthingstech.social avatar

@bloodaxe Ask the distro community and not the entire Fediverse?
