So, I went on eBay to see how much some rack-mounted digital audio gear I happened to have was selling for, since I'm trying to downsize.

They were selling for $19.99.

I ended up buying one, so now I have two of them.

This is not going according to plan.

More PC questions I’m afraid. Hard drives this time.

  1. The motherboard has 4 data connectors but it also has two m.2 slots. Can I assume M2 is “better” since it’s almost surface mounted vs cables ?

@acf I’d go with one big fast disk. NVMe is faster but only if the slot isn’t sharing a PCIe lane with something hungry like your graphics card.

@acf Another bonus: If you have two slots, you can hardware RAID0 them together for a bigger disk with about 1.5 (realistically) times the bandwidth.

@jessicamauerhan It IS absolutely staggering what has come within reach of even a sole indie developer in the past 5 years alone. Apps I dreamed of building in the late 2000s were just impossoble without a team and lots of startup funding. Now it wouldn’t be worth building a dedicated product around such a specialized case in the face of the raw power and capability available today. It would just be me-too’d as a free side feature of a much larger competitor’s product.
