This week I was helping out a client (side work) and they sent me an ssh private key to an ec2 instance, unencrypted over email 💀
They have been so good to work with, but they are not interested in anything beyond the agreed scope of work, and it’s killing me to not be able to help them further.
Being the rarest day of the year, today is also #RareDiseaseDay
My son Miles has Hypophosphatasia (HPP) which is a rare genetic disease that leads to under mineralized bones, respiratory compromise, tooth loss, and seizures.
From an extended NICU stay, a trach, numerous surgeries, broken bones 🦴 , over 1000 💉 and more 🧑⚕️ appointments than I can count, it has been an incredible journey.
So in celebration of him and everything that makes him rare, Happy Rare Disease Day!
I have this old DVI based 23” Cinema Display. It works just fine still (with a DVI to USB-C adapter too), but I just have no need for it anymore. I don’t really want to go through the hassle of eBay for how little it is worth. Any suggestions on what to do with it? Is there a community around people looking for legacy equipment?
I spent all day in the ER yesterday in attempts to document the fact that my son was having seizures (due discontinuing the med that keeps him from having seizures)
But of course he didn’t have a seizure during the time he was hooked up to the EEG, so it was a complete waste of a day.
I've now read and watched a handful of reviews and takes about the Vision Pro headset.
I work on a computer all day long. I'm certain that, with one or two years of updates, this will be the only display I want to use for work.
If and when there are incredible new spatial apps, I'll be even more excited.
But right now, Vision Pro is so individualized and isolating that, despite my excitement, I find myself cringing at the thought of using it in my home and around my family.
@tylermumford that makes sense! My understanding is there is no way for two users in the same room to be looking at the same virtual things yet. That would be killer.
Even persona calls, you see the other person in a little box instead of feeling like you’re sharing a common environment.
For such an expensive device, it’s also a huge shame that they don’t support multiple users.
@tylermumford It’s definitely a 1.0 device. I’m glad everyone is already talking about what more they want out of it. I think that means it has hope for the future.
I’m so conflicted personally. The #visionPro starts at $3,500 USD, that’s already very inaccessible to most people.
I do think that #Apple is leading the way in making #accessibility part of the design. I also understand not every object is going to be for all people. There will always be individual needs that fall outside the possibilities of a single object.
But more tech companies really need to step up and consider more people’s needs and create companion devices that are more accessible
#Apple is a $3 trillion dollar company. They could dedicate the resources to make products that tie into their ecosystem that are specifically designed for even more #accessibility needs even if the market for a such device is not “mass market”.
Shouldn’t there be a certain level of success in which providing accessibility is required? Like the ADA, but for tech products?
Had a day off work, so I spent a lot of time enhancing the Stripe Connect integration for customers of my side business. They finally have the ability to accept ApplePay and other Wallet payments in their forms.
I had the opportunity to make some enhancements to an internal Mac app at work this week.
Swift and SwiftUI are really fun! It’s true about the error messages though, they are often completely unrelated (on the surface) from the actual issue.
I also found Xcode hard to navigate, and the lack of #GitHub#Copilot is a shame.
I’d definitely be interested in trying a little more Mac/iOS development, see if there are work around for the hurdles.
Do you ever have a day where you just need less sleep?
I think it’s a universal experience that sometimes we stay up too late and so we’re a bit groggy the next day.
But do you ever like stay up too late because you lost track of time. And then you only get 4 hours of sleep, but you actually feel just fine the next day like it was a full sleep?
That happened to me, but I’ve never heard anyone talk about it before. Am I the only one?
It’s so frustrating how inaccessible it is everywhere. I’m currently trying to convince the village I live in to add accessible parking to their downtown area. You’d think there would be some laws about that.
Oh wait, there are laws, and there are always excuses as to why places feel they don’t apply. So you know, that’s always a good feeling to find out when places will only be accessible if they are forced, and even then still try to avoid it.
After a nice conversation with the village Engineer, we’re making some progress.
He said they make accessibility improvements as part of big capital projects, but not really as one offs. He thinks the area I’m asking about might have too steep a slope for an accessible spot, but he said he’s actually going to look into what he can do.
I bought a domain name. I’m considering starting a website with the intent that it could contain resources for individuals seeking better accessibility from their village, businesses, schools etc.
I can start with the things my family has learned from some of our successes. I’m hoping others could contribute as well the things that have worked for them.
