We're setting up Push Notifications for our mobile app, you may notice requests to push.pixelfed.net, this is why!

We may add support for other apps in the future, but for now they will be limited to the official app.

Hallo Elektroniker,

I just added notes on Hubzilla to https://stefanbohacek.com/blog/making-fediverse-apps-for-everyone/.

Huge thanks to @jupiter_rowland for providing some points!

Anything else I'm missing here, particularly:

  • OAuth scopes
  • sharing via URL
  • embedding posts
  • RSS feeds

@stefan @jupiter_rowland Hubzilla definitly also supports sharing via URL. I don't have an instance anymore to test, and forgot the exact syntax, but it is probably similar to Friendica.

Edit: Try "/rpost?body=" and "/rpost?f=&url=" (lifted from an old app I made some years ago).

@stefan @jupiter_rowland You can also get an ATOM feed from a Hubzilla user via "/feed/{username}".

I'm early in my XMPP journey, but I'm currently working on a few chatbots to get a server to what I'm calling "Discord Parity"

As I understand XMPP and have my webhook bot configured is that the bot is a user that joins a room and simply is always passively listening.

Something I've noticed in the logs is that the bot receives the xml for all activity.

This includes the plaintext communications of people.

I haven't gotten to the step of setting up OMEMO encryption for the bot and this might quell my concerns for this bot which just forwards data into the chat.

More concerning is a planned interactive bot. Since it will be waiting for commands it must listen for messages, but I don't want it snarfling all messages up.

At this stage, I think our data is better stewarded and secured by us than Discord, but it's something I'm thinking through and would love to here from any XMPP folks in the fediverse.

@jeremiah You don't have to listen to commands in the same group-chat. For example the bot could be configured in a separate 1:1 chat and only post into a group-chat. Another neat option is to allow configuration via ad-hoc commands and forms. A recent example for such a bot can be seen here: https://slixfeed.woodpeckersnest.space/posts/slixfeed-news-bot/

Funny little mixer I just came across: https://neomojimixer.com/
I just wish emoji reactions will come to Mastodon at some point... I always feel sad that users there can't see all the great emojis I use here on :neocat_cool_fingerguns:

I am looking into hosting a instance. Already got a nice domain for it and have the general idea how to do it. Anything I should know before starting?

kris,

@blakeashleyjr Like all my other stuff in my homelab. Hardware wise it shouldn't be a problem, I am rather wondering about the software side. For example a while ago I read Pixelfed works better with MariaDB and not PostgreSQL?
