@jerry elk.infosec.exchange seems to be giving a 502 error for me currently. It was having some problems with icons and images so I cleared cache and reloaded, which is when I started seeing the 502.

Not an emergency thing, but if you could look at it when you get a chance I'd appreciate it.

kuoirad,

@jerry Thanks, Jerry. Only now getting a chance to look at it. :)

Today was a long month. I wonder what tomorrow will bring? :dumpster_fire:

I am totally not sure what I am doing here, but the writing blockage has finally un-clogged itself in the past 48 hours and I'm past 30,000 words. So, only 90,000 more words to write by the end of June!

Also, Bob Howard's life—and, shortly thereafter, the whole of British politics—is about to be catastrophically disrupted by a sick dog.

kuoirad,

@cstross @CliftonR Charlie, do you know offhand if it should be available for pre-order yet?

New week, new feature!

Cleaning up your inbox just got easier – you can now label, move, delete, or mark as read all emails in a folder (including your main Inbox) at once on the web app.

Have you tried it already?

kuoirad,

@protonmail this is great news!

kuoirad,

@protonmail FWIW, it doesn't seem to be working for me if I do a search for, say, all messages from 2022 in my Inbox. I hit the select all checkbox, but don't get the popup saying "you've selected 50 messages, click here to select all NNN messages". If I do that in my full Inbox, I do.

I have concluded that focus stacking is a complete PITA. Perhaps if I had a much faster computer. That said, I think this turned out well.

kuoirad,

@jerry Sounds like you just found justification for a new computer...😁

jerry, to random

You know, life would be so much easier if I knew wtf I was doing

kuoirad,

@jerry Fake it 'til you make it, Jerry. That's all any of us can do.

I did not have "unauthorized secret Lubovitcher tunnels" on my 2024 Bingo card, yet here they are: https://apnews.com/article/brooklyn-synagogue-chabad-tunnel-2c03a40c9150bdf6d9d899436789d8cf

kuoirad,

@evacide TIL I learned that there are "Messianic" Jews that aren't "Christians cosplaying as Jews" (as my wife puts it).

I just picked up my new glasses. It's been ~4 years since I got new ones. I really did not realize how yellowed and scratched my old ones had gotten. I also got a really cheap pair for working on my computer - my normal glasses are progressives, and it feels like I had to point my head at the ceiling to read the top of my monitor.

It's remarkable the difference a new set of glasses can make.

kuoirad,

@jerry getting my eyes checked next week, looking to just get new lenses for my existing frames. Don't need progressives yet... knocks on wood

kuoirad,

@jerry eh, I'll get them when I need them, hopefully not for a while. I'm sure it'll make reading music a pain in the butt.

Someone sent me a video on X. I haven’t been there in a while. I am stunned. Setting aside the moral objections, how are people cutting through the trash heap of conspiracy theories, blatant paid scam ads, mention spam, and foreign propaganda to get any productive use out of it?

kuoirad,

@jerry I only use the website and an adblocker, on mobile as well as desktop, and only use the following tab. I avoid the algorithm as much as possible. There is still (unfortunately) people I follow on there. I'm sure that makes me a horrible person and/or accomplice to some.

I'm also here and on bluesky as well. shrugs

I trust everyone is having a super productive day at work today, right?

kuoirad,

@jerry some off us worked Friday and have today off instead. 😁

Unfortunately, no extra days for New Year's next weekend. 😒

kuoirad,

@protonmail Sounds like possibly another step on the road to a feature I'd love for you guys to implement - the ability to set up forwarders when we want to "host" our domain's email with Proton.

I provide forwarders/aliases to family members on my domain - they shouldn't/don't need to have accounts where I do. I'm happy to pay a little more for this feature, I already have to pay another company to "host" my domain for this.

kuoirad,

@gaufff @protonmail My reading and looking at the settings is different. This only allows me to forward from an account I already have set up within Proton. I don't want to set up all these forwarders as actual accounts I can use within Proton.

kuoirad,

@protonmail @gaufff Yes, I already have my custom domain set up within Proton, as my dario@landazuri.net email ends up in my Proton mailbox as I want it to.

AFAICT, this forwarding only works for addresses you've set up as a part of your Proton account/mailbox. At my current hoster, mailboxes(/accounts) and forwards are two very separate things.

Email to these forwarders aren't part of an account/mailbox - it never stops or lives anywhere on my hoster, it's just immediately forwarded off.

kuoirad,

@gaufff @protonmail Ok, that may be what you're looking for, it's not what I'm looking for. I don't want a copy of emails sent to my wife, or my brothers, etc in my inbox. It's not mail sent to me, it's none of my business.

@hacks4pancakes "Welcome" to Texas, maybe? Were you in/near Austin and I wasn't busy with an orchestra the next few nights, I'd offer to buy you a drink. :)

kuoirad,

@hacks4pancakes I know. I didn't know they were that widespread now, but yeah.

Today, InfosecAI MegaCorp Industries decided to part ways with its CEO, Thor, after its now former CEO would not stop begging for breakfast before 4am. This should in no way be seen as an indication that InfosecAI MegaCorp Industries has financial issues.

The former CEO had this to say:
“MEEEEOOOOOOOOWWWWWW”

kuoirad,

@jerry Settle down, Thor.

Hi all. I am going to take pixel.infosec.exchange offline for a bit to migrate it to a new server as part of my consolidation/simplification/performance improvement program. It should be back up by the end of the day

kuoirad,

@jerry thanks for providing Elk, Jerry. I really like it.
