It's still 9 months or something away, but already the US Election is causing me to bounce up & down on my mute button like Zebedee from the Magic Roundabout.

people: I have copious filters to hide your stuff from my timeline, so if it gets through you're probably not following Mastodon/Fediverse best practices.

Put stuff behind CWs. Use hashtags. Don't deliberately mis-spell names.

I know you might feel this is the most interesting, vitally important election ever, but many of us don't have the mental space or desire to process a constant stream of fear and fury.

The same goes for actually. I don't usually hide that completely from my timeline but the filters do try to auto-CW it so that I can choose when to engage and when not to.

This Friday, BBC Four, 10pm. "The Story of Microdisney: The Clock Comes Down the Stairs".

I had the immense pleasure and privilege of a few years working with Cathal long after he gave up the professional music business, until his very untimely death. He was not only a hugely talented musician but a very intelligent and kind man.

If you have any interest in music at all, do watch this or catch-up later on iPlayer. I'm expecting a fantastic programme.

@simon I've seen them in ones and twos in the grounds of stately homes and the like, but a plantation sounds pretty good. Harrogate's just about achievable as a day trip for us, I might have to add that to the bucket list.

Thinking back, the last time we were in Harrogate must have been almost exactly four years ago as it was the weekend before the very first covid lockdown was announced.

It was quite eerie as the town centre was largely deserted, many shops were already closed and not a lot of people around.

@0x4d6165 I've never been as far north as that on your west coast, but don't some of the great conifer forests stretch way up into Oregon as well?

Not that I'm disagreeing with you - giant redwoods are so associated with California that it's shocking to learn there are so few in the State.

@anathema_device I think NZ and the UK have somewhat similar climates, especially South Island, but NZ is further north than the UK is south if you see what I mean. So maybe the longer hours of daylight on average helps the trees?
