Why would I see markedly different network performance between casting to a device from my phone (unwatchable levels of buffering) vs using the equivalent app directly on the same device (no issues)?

@LeDiva I don't know. It's not like she has much else to occupy her time. Unlike most stay-at-home parents I doubt she has to devote huge portions of her life to bringing up the kids, cooking for them, that sort of thing.

And don't her parents run a design agency or something? It's quite possible she is in fact interested in photoshop and image tidying. Even a princess has to have a hobby!

As an amateur photographer, and only from my own opinion:

  1. All photos that you see in print or on screen are processed in some way. There is no such thing as 'no filter’.

  2. iPhone and Android cameras make all sorts of decisions about the final result. What you see on screen is likely a composite of several frames and several lenses/sensors. The phone is literally manipulating the image you see.

  3. I take many photos where arms, hands, and fingers look unnatural.

@danieldurrans Wasn't the photo billed as a "family snap taken by Prince William". In which case it could simply be that either the phone had "touch-up / enhancement" settings enabled e.g. Google Pixel, or maybe even William has tried to do a bit of tidying up himself in Photoshop or something.

Hence the rather amateurish work done. But still cock-up rather than conspiracy.

I think the BBC needs to take a long hard look at itself though. On the one hand they're putting out regular stories about manipulated images being uncritically accepted by news orgns, and then this happens ...

So …forks like Glitch, yay or nay? I like the bonus features like easily increasing the max character count. However I’m put off by them seemingly all being based off the main branch with no “stable” releases.

What’s the experience like running them day to day?

@cablespaghetti I've been running Glitch-Social for over a year now with no significant issues.

However it is only a single-user instance so I have the luxury of not affecting anyone else if I did break things.

I usually update roughly weekly, just to bring it up to the latest commits, but that's not essential.

@jmb Ugh, that reminds me. When we moved into this house nine years ago, I had a couple of large plastic boxes full of old paperwork. We promptly put them up in the loft ... where they've been ever since.

One day I need to go up there and just get rid of those boxes of decade-plus old bank statements and other useless crap!
