If you were in the market for a smart TV what would you buy?

Our Philips dumb TV is failing and I want to strike a balance between privacy and function. Keen not to find I'm locked in to a bespoke OS that either doesn't update or offer new apps when they become available.

Current set up:

43 inch fHD dumb TV with Roku soundbar.

@mansr if it were a phone I'd say the digitiser is failing. Could be LED back light I guess, but it's getting increasingly dark with a strong blue tint.

My test bed Mycroft / OpenVoiceOS installation is coming alongnicely. It's frustrating that MycroftAI's excellent online portal for managing skills and settings disappeared with the demise of the company. But I'm encouraged by the onscreen developments OVOS has inherited from Mycroft II.

@cyberlyra I'm using OpenVoiceOS at the moment. I've got it running on a raspberry pi and screen. I never ran to the official hardware so don't have that issue. But I think NeonAI can be installed over the original os.

I will be voting today. Here we have Police Commissioner elections and I really resent voting for them because politicising the police force is a stupid idea and I have yet to see an adequate case made for the role.

But I will vote.

@gamingonlinux they can't possibly open source early versions of windoze as we all know that every version of windows since 3.1 is basically a pretty overlay on the old code.

They didn't even get around to removing fileman until Win2K.

I think I have a cable problem.
(Actually I was looking for a 25-25 m-f which I must have somewhere, maybe if I can find my breakout box it'll be connected to it...)

Today we're releasing 24.2.2, the second update to our new 24.2 branch (with "year.month" version scheme). We've also updated the previous and older LibreOffice 7.6 branch too: https://blog.documentfoundation.org/blog/2024/03/28/libreoffice-24-2-2-and-7-6-6-community/

@libreoffice Please go back to proper version numbers.

The new scheme is confusing and makes you look silly

Brain: it would be a good use of your time while recharging at this motorway service station to buy some food for tomorrow’s lunch so you won’t have to leave the flat in the morning.

Stomach: EAT ALL FOOD NOW RAWR

Help me out Fedi.

There was an obscure British band in 70s called something "bird". Among other oddities one of the members is a classically trained organist and composer.

Does that ring any bells with anyone?

They really are utterly craven aren’t they? Turning a victim into a photo op, having done essentially nothing to help. I mean it’s not as if at one point they were Home Secretary, or anything, was it. FFS.

My current hypothesis is that the rapture took place in 2016. It explains why we lost so many people that year and why the whole darn world appeared to jump the shark.

I am now wondering the most feasible way of leaving society behind and restarting on an island somewhere far away from everyone and everything.
