The cat is in and out and in and out on these summery evenings

Morning. Miss Cinnamon didn’t come home last night. Tom slept downstairs to listen out for her, but nothing. I’m very anxious.

@purplepadma Tom’s a keeper isn’t he? I like to think I’m a good performing partner but he seems off the scale.

@stefan I will usually caption/alt-text images, as I have reminders in place to remember to do it.
The reason it doesn't get done as often as it should, IMO, is that people aren't in the habit of doing it. So making it mandatory in clients would be one possible option, or adding reminders during the posting workflow.

Ooooh 5.6km run/walk, one song on, one song recovery throughout. Managed it all comfortably right up until the very last minute, which was a sprint which defeated me! 51’ 30” exercise to start the day right 😁 #running #fitness

Happy Thursday.

Well folks, I seem to have the worse cold imaginable.

And yes, I am the world's worse patient too.

Had hardly any sleep last night, and my nose feels a few arctic trucks have been trundling through it.

Any cold remedies or advice that work for you will be greatly appreciated.

Achoo!

@MikeInTheGarden I recommend a strong curry and guiness.
I mean, it might not work, but at least you’ve had a curry and a drink

This week, I'm serializing part of chapter 14 from my new novel The Bezzle, which is out in stores TODAY (!!!):

@pluralistic I just finished Bezzle, and then read RTB straight afterwards. Really enjoyed it, and now I need more Hench in my life.

It's like we all decided that imperialism is bad, which it is, so the solution is no one talks about imperial ambitions or power unless it's to insult a bad guy.

So in the US press you might hear Russia call imperialist, but you'll never get an honest discussion of the vectors of American imperial power, this means that US foreign policy is inscrutable to most Americans.

"Why are we giving Ukraine so much money?"

Like we are handing out gift cards, Benjamins and Obama phones.

@futurebird strongly agree with this. It's an investment with a clearly defined future economic and diplomatic payoff. Also the ROI is pretty good.

I'm kickstarting the audiobook for The Bezzle, the sequel to last year's Red Team Blues, featuring Marty Hench, a hard-charging, two-fisted forensic accountant who spent 40 years in Silicon Valley, busting every finance scam hatched by tech bros' feverish imaginations:

@pluralistic thanks for fixing the link. Obviously I've backed it. Looking forward to reading both books!

Looking for a shared calendar product aimed at non-developers that isn’t Google calendar.
Simple as possible. It’s for sharing Dad’s care rota amongst a group of family, friends and carers.

Any ideas out there? Please boost for reach

@Edent ideally they’d all be able to edit.

    The movers mentioned my plants and I completely forgot about that. I have a lot of plants! Can someone advise me on what you might have done if you moved and had a lot of houseplants, some of them very delicate?

    martinhowitt,
    @martinhowitt@urbanists.social avatar

    @dancinyogi my partner has lots, some houseplants but also some outdoor plants in pots. When we moved we did a dedicated run just for them in a large van. IIRC there were 30-40 of them

    ProjectFearlessness, to UKpolitics

    U.K. PM Sunak's latest wheeze is to stop local councils from applying 20mph speed limits in built up busy areas, in a bid to win the 'motorists' vote.
    Is it really a vote winner though? Are all the 'motorists' suddenly going to switch to voting Tory? I think he'll find that the 'motorists' that will vote for him based on this policy are the same 'motorists' that we're going to vote for him anyway.

    martinhowitt,
    @martinhowitt@urbanists.social avatar

    @ProjectFearlessness my local Nextdoor clearly agree with him.
