Last year someone convinced ChatGPT to make a thing. I've taken than, fixed ChatGPT's stupidity, added some quality of life features, renamed it and am gradually iterating on it as I use it.

I've called it FediThready to separate it from the original "ooh AI" project and because it's a silly name that makes me smile.

For all those people out there who still claim that we are getting our kids high by giving them Adderall:

I took my dose at 6:30 AM , went back to sleep, just getting up now 10 minutes before nine.

brains are chemically different. Normal brains, get high or focused or whatever. I become slightly more able to find the thing I set down three seconds ago.

These drives are spinning platters that have served us well for almost 41,000 hours of use, so I can't really blame them for having a hard time.

Can any of you hardware geeks tell me how worried I should be? This is a configured as a Synology Hybrid Raid https://kb.synology.com/en-br/DSM/tutorial/What_is_Synology_Hybrid_RAID_SHR

I guess i've got some research to do today

I have just trimmed off ~9-12 inches (22.5-30cm) of hair (after the photo). It was long enough that you can't really tell, but getting rid of all those dead ends made it brush out much more easily.

I had to brush it while dry, and pull it forwards in order to do the cut. a) i look like Cousin It. b) this is why i never brush my hair when it's dry. 🤦‍♀️

Cut, washed, conditioned, now waiting for it to dry again before attacking the bangs. 🤞

And no, I couldn't see the picture i was taking.

I finally got so sick of Thangs.com's search field absolutely fails the large fonts test because there's literally no space in there to see the characters you're typing. Also, it's a VERY small click target.

So, opened Tampermonkey, and fixed it.

when asking where to sell prints someone messaged me to warn about @cults3d not paying out and doxxing someone.

Obviously concerning, so i tracked down the original story, and cult's apology https://cults3d.com/en/pages/official-response-cults-bigbore-designer-case is the first real apology I've seen from a company. It actually takes responsibility for the fuck-up.

The fact that the creator removed all their models, but after the apology they put them back AND are still selling there 2 years later says a lot.

TIL about the concept of an "approximate theory".

An approximate theory is one which works, until you look into it too deeply.

It's like flat earth theory. It's plausible (to anyone who never traveled). It can be incredibly convincing. It is "good enough" for most people's needs. It just falls apart the moment you actually start to apply real scientific study to it.

This has a lot of implications in everyday life. For example...

Cigna has a "My Personal Champion" program which is a person they connect you with who knows what your particular needs are, so that they can head off 🐄💩 claims denials.

It's particularly good for (& intended for) transgender people because many of us have had issues with reasonable trans related claims getting denied.

geeks who use Printables.

What's this number overlaid on your profile image in the top corner? When you click it there's a menu but nothing there seem related.

A few people responded to my post about where to sell the models for my Filament Stackers saying that Printables allowed you to sell individual models now. Turns out, yes they do but there are 2 problems.

  1. they don't mention it ANYWHERE and it's hidden under "Settings".
  2. this warning is FUCKING SCARY and almost drove me away, because the context was name & address.

After digging to find an example it turns out they only display name and country.

a screenshot of someone's seller information. It shows their display name, username, real name and country. I've obscured the real name and country parts.

YouTube has been trying to convince me to watch videos from NerdForge for a while now. Last night, I actually watched one.

a) damn she's good. So skilled at so many things.
b) just went back and watched one of her / their first videos from 7 years ago. It was... not bad. A very reasonable video on building an Iron Throne phone charge.

It's impressive to see how she/they (her and her partner filming it) went from such an "average" starting point to 3.16M subscribers, & a huge studio.

where to sell a model?

My Filament Stackers are ready to go, but I've reached an impasse. Thangs.com wants me to set up ongoing plans that people subscribe to. MyMiniFactory wants me to pay like $25 a month.

Are there any 3D printing focused sites that would just let me sell a model for $6 and just take a cut of the sale with no monthly fees or buyer subscriptions?

I stumbled across Monika McWuff's YouTube work on making the world's fastest 3D Printer (sub 2min Benchie) 🤯 and... OMG someone with 💰 needs to sponsor them for the good of the community. Any print farm with machines this fast would have WAY higher throughput & like F1 tech eventually trickling down to consumer cars, this would benefit us all.

sensory 🐄💩.

Aside from the constant avoidance of loud noises and keeping the sun's evil rays from finding my eyeballs... my sensory management is primarily the never-ending balancing act between "holy shit my nipples are on fire! I need a bra!" and "holy shit get this bra off of me!"

So, that's a thing. 🙁

Lightbox assembled. Initial impressions

  1. I knew it was small, but… it's really small.
  2. It looks great considering the easy of creation.
  3. trivial to assemble and disassemble.
  4. packs up small & magnets are close enough to hold the stack
  5. I like the shadows cast by the overhead lights.
  6. Unsurprisingly it NEEDs lighting from the camera's side.

Nitpicks & future improvements in 🧵

three images. two on the left one tall one on the right. top left shows the lid with the LED strips wired up in series. bottom left shows a stack of 4 panels being lifted by the 2nd one down. the magnets are holding the rest up. the right image shows the meeting of 3 walls in the box without any obscuring items.

I did a thing. I haven't soldered in like 20 years(?), but I want a light box to photograph the @noted stuff so that I can sell it to fine people like you.

I printed the box a while ago, but needed to install the lights and magnets. I've finished the lights, and installed 32 of 80 magnets.

I think i may have put too many lights though. It's SOOO bright (see second photo).

a photo from over my shoulder. The left half is entirely hair. Sorry. The right half shows my purple gloved hands shielding my eyes from a very bright glowing white light emanating from the square with LED strips.

Person talking about a product they are demonstrating:

“ADA compliant means it is 12 mm or less thick. This is 3/8 of an inch thick.” 🤦‍♀️

To add insult to the stupid American stereotype, she was speaking with a southern accent.

When will the scourge of imperial measurements end?!

Accent context: Outside of the US that accent is exotic, like a thick British accent to people in the US. Inside of the US, it has a bad stereotyped association with uneducated and/or stupid people.
