    Great read from @glennf on USB-C cables and chargers for iPhone 15 (link below).

    Glenn suggests avoiding Apple's Lightning to USB-C adapter, cause it's expensive.

    But also, Apple's adapter doesn't always work! Specifically, it causes at least one CarPlay install to crash. Repeatedly.

    @paul I was interesting in comparing video transcode. M1 Max 96Gb Ram v M2 Pro 16Gb- the M1 was twice as fast, which I really didn’t expect

    When you have a timer running in watchOS 10 there is now a quick jump indicator that appears at the top of the clock face! (same for Alarms and Stopwatches)

    No more need to have a timer complication just for when a timer is running. I love it!

    I wish there were more I could do than scream and cry. People without homes aren’t disposable. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/05/13/us/san-diego-homelessness.html The best I have been able to do so far is vote for measures, all passed, that provide increasing public funding for transitional and permanent housing. In a nation of billionaires and record profits from companies, we have absolutely failed morally. Folks on the streets are there for many reasons, none of them subject to our judgement.

    It’s really tiring having what you can eat gradually vanish to nothing. When I was a kid, it was just shellfish. I could even eat fish. About 15 years ago, I had to ditch onion and garlic, and then wheat. That was manageable.

    Now, there’s so much gone that I’m starting to get genuinely concerned about what will be left if the trend continues. (Alas, the most recent specialist I got to talk to, after years of begging my GP for a consult, essentially hand-waved me away over a telephone call.)

    @craiggrannell they love to not spend budgets on allergy testing. About all they recommended for my wife who has barley, barley malt, soya and caffeine on her list was the FODMap elimination diet, but you are probably further down the road

    @craiggrannell she has to be extra vigilant and inspect every ingredient to make sure she’ll be OK.
    She has an epipen, as a last resort.

    He GP told her to drink wine rather than have allergy tests (as she ca no longer drink beer)

    @craiggrannell there are definitely the uncomfortable ones as well as the dangerous ones, just has to be on constant watch.
    Hope you get somewhere but NHS funding isn’t a priority for this it seems

    Today I tried to use nothing but manual focus on my D850 and the result was absolutely disastrous. What appeared sharp in my viewfinder appear blurry in the final image—the actual focus point was farther away than what I anticipated.

    I wonder if this is an alignment issue, or maybe a diopter issue that is fighting with my eyeglasses (I’ve left the diopter dial at 0), but it’s strange that the results are so consistently wrong.

    Does anyone have experience with this? Should I send my camera in for maintenance?

    @drahardja you used to be able to get glass diopters for cameras - that might have been in the film days though.

    Astigmatism probably doesn’t help though.

    My mirrored allows me to zoom in to the sensor as well which helps with focusing
