“Mr. Shatner wept. He was struck not by how much was “up there” but how little. “Everything I had thought was wrong,” Mr. Shatner wrote later. “The contrast between the vicious coldness of space and the warm nurturing of Earth below filled me with overwhelming sadness.” He suddenly understood how fragile the home planet was, and he knew it was all we had.”
Since some of you in the #fediverse have asked: Yes I can see your replies when I post from Flipboard. And yes, I can also reply back from Flipboard to people in the fediverse and I try to do so as much as possible.
The big problem with Tesla that this article misses completely is that many of Tesla's most enthusiastic customers (like I once was) no longer want to support a person who is actively promoting hateful conspiracy theories and providing nazis and Russians with a platform to disrupt the upcoming U.S. election.
@mike@ac I would say it's priced in with the decline in market share... Which will only accelerate outside the US with the emergence of BYD and other Chinese EV manufacturers.
The European commission might establish tariffs for these Chinese manufacturers (akin to the US). But in order to be effective these might need to be as high as 55%. Which a) is unrealistic and b) shows how cheap EVs might become in the next few years.
I thought the concerns about Boeing were overblown. Then I watched the John Oliver piece on Boeing in which he details the damage that Boeing's merger with MD did to their culture and how the creation of the 737 max was managed. I will no longer fly on that plane.
Another great review from MKBHD of another AI device that has promise but is not so great. His point about how more and more products are shipping in this unfinished state is really an important one. Seems pretty crazy to have to say this but maybe don't ship stuff that doesn't work.
@mike@ac I was actually sort of excited to see Rabbit ship and it's sorta sad to see how far they seemed to fail. I liked some of the concepts around the idea of "agents" interacting with apps to get around the interoperability issue. I hope we see some open source implementation of the LAM ideas
I know what you mean. The LAM concept is really interesting. That said it relies on giving a company a huge amount of trust to effectively run your apps on your behalf with all your credentials and preferences and more. It’s like the most functional spyware ever devised.
Will #TikTok get banned? Will it get bought? Who will buy it? Will that acquisition even be allowed by the FTC? I would not put it past #Elon Musk to make an attempt here. TikTok is just the latest example of the perils of building an audience in a walled garden. This is why the #fediverse is the way forward.
This is a really big deal. Soon anyone on Flipboard will be able to discover, follow and engage with Ghost newsletter authors and readers directly. More content. More people. Same app.
@gabriel the big difference will be that Flipboard and Ghost users can see and engage with each other once they support #activitypub. It’s kinda like two way RSS.
