@Laura @mikeh Workshop1 will have proper coffee from 8.30 to 9.30, then will have help-yourself-to-instant-coffee for the workshops...

I may be a bit busy making coffee to have a proper chat in to morning tho...

I got this windows keyboard out of the garage, and needed to add some key labels as some of the most used keys had worn the letter off.

Works fine at 10+ years old.

All the dust was free!

So much temptation today at the NEC!

mikehaber,

@antlerboy you went to the festival of accounting and bookkeeping, right?

I guess the festival vibe was due to those consultants offering to juggle the books, and those who are clearly clowns🤣

Yeah, so I hear you saying this helmet looks slightly unusual.

This is however the specific version, and the storage space under the helmet contains storage for an entire sleep system, food and lube

The helmet itself is utilised when camping to attach the tarp, proving ample living space, and doubling as a bowl for crisps and snacks.

The pro uci version contains the battery units for the bicycle motor, and the size varies depending on the race length

Great video on the direction cycling could be going with electronic shifting - and how you don't have to go there to keep access to the compatibility to bike stuff.

I may have to give up racing. Age comes at you, but it's not that, yet at least. It's the price to compete, it's getting to the point of ridicule. You can still get really good bikes, and get really fit, but when you are looking to race, the expense to match the others is ludicrous. And immoral.

mikehaber,
@mikehaber@social.coop avatar

@ronanmcd @FourT4 for racing, anyone would need to be able to afford the bike, and be comfortable replacing parts due to crashes.

While this bike exists, there is only a small number of people who would race on this using their own cash??

I’d not enjoy 3/4 car racing on a bike that could cost me 1000’s in a crash.

mikehaber,
@mikehaber@social.coop avatar

@ronanmcd @FourT4 I guess track racing is most accessible- and maybe cross. Time trialing (maybe just a uk thing) is very gear dependent.

Road racing is interesting, right now a second hand rim brake bike would probably do for uk 3/4 cat, but there is not a lot new and affordable (less than 1k)you could start to race race on.

Both my race bike were less than £1200, giant and basso. That was 13+ years ago tho…

"Are your lights on?" is a nice metaphor used in songs to ask, I guess, if someone is still 'alive', young, exciting, whatever.

Reply with any songs you have.

First is Bros by Wolf Alice, from an amazing acoustic performance with cowboy backing vocals at NPR.

Next is Big Thief with mythological beauty, you gotta wait till the end.

Just figured out that the Olympic Stadium is almost on top of the old Queen Mary University Nucleonics Laboratory - one of three locations in London that housed a nuclear reactor.

This reactor was previously sited underneath Mile End road from 1964-1966

A picture of the QMUL research reactor in its previous location in Mile End

@jonty if you squint, it looks like an apple logo on the reactor.

We actively help create what we see.

Two people can see the same thing differently.

Huge if true

From bird
(

  1. If your eyes follow the movement of the rotating pink dot, you will only see one color, pink.

  2. If you stare at the black + in the center, the moving dot turns to green.

  3. Reality Shatter: Now, concentrate on the black + in the center of the picture. After a short period of time, many if not all of the pink dots will slowly disappear, and you may only see a green dot rotating.
    )

Gif of moving pink dots with a black plus. If you concentrate on the plus you see green dots, and the pink dots disappear. Probably magic, I dunno.

Yesterday I broke the of my wife's . I had to change the tube inside the rear tire, and I didn't reattach the rear wheel correctly. I kept turning the nut only on one side until I eventually twisted off the threading of the gear indicator pin.

I identified the gearbox to be a Sprinter S5C Coaster, which was made between 1994 and 1999. I'm gonna have to take the whole thing apart on the weekend. 😩🔧

Photo of the gear indicator pin and chain. A small part, maybe 10cm long. The threading at the end of the pin (right side) is missing.
Photo of the right side of the bike's rear wheel. The indicator pin has been removed (by me).
Another photo of the of the wheel hub I took for identification.

@fell how did it go?

mikehaber,
@mikehaber@social.coop avatar

@fell
I bought the SA tool and a 99p spring and serviced mine OK.

A vice definitely helped putting it all together!

Yours probably needs one of these:

I like the red/yellow stripe on that hub! I hope someone picks up a bargain!
