My instance is closing and I'm looking for a new one but struggling. I'm into language learning/armchair linguistics, crafting (mostly knitting), horror, scifi/fantasy, games, and deathcare. I am fat, queer, & pagan. I am kinda desperate for more diversity in my local feed, especially Latine folks "living in the hyphen."
UPDATE: Masto, you are amazing, thx for so many boosts & suggestions! ❤️
UPDATE UPDATE: You can find me as @mmezabet now! 🧶👺
I know a lot of people mean well when they ask for alt-text. But for some of us the options are "post without alt-text" or just "not post". It's not that alt-text is impossible, it's just an extremely difficult extra for those us who struggle to follow through on anything.
In the end I decided to just post without alt-text because my incomplete posts are still contributing to the vibrancy of federated social media, and that seems like a net gain over not posting anything at all.
@cytokine_storm We're all doing the best we can, so no worries, we got you! Tag your post with #alttext4u, which invites others to reply with alt text for your images for those who need it. 👍🏻 Keep posting!
More optimistic about today than I was, but it helps that the forecast temperature has fallen to 35 instead of 38. I am trying a thing, converting Fahrenheit to Celsius every time I want to talk about temperature to try to get my mind used to it. Perhaps I should set my weather app to use C.
First up: new fridge. Ours died two years ago and we've been using a mini fridge since. Granted, it's BIG for a mini fridge, but it's small enough that you can't really take advantage of any sales by freezing things, and you can't put a 2-liter in it, etc.
As soon as that's paid off? I'm buying myself a damn dress from Exo Umbra since I have wanted one for YEARS now! 🖤 🕷️ 🦇
Ok, blacksmithing Mastodon, I have a question! I do not forge & am not interested in starting, but I am really enjoying watching Forged In Fire. I can't help but wonder what you do with the metal from failed blades. I assume you can't make a new blade with it, but can it be recycled/upcycled into something else?
As well as walking on the moon, 1969 was the year the first menstrual pad with an adhesive to stick it to your underwear hit the market. And it came out several months after than the moon landings.
@vagina_museum I remember my great-grandmother asking me if I had a belt yet and I blew her mind when I told her that they were self-stick now. 😂 This was... 1989, 1990-ish.
Currently living in that fuzzy state between knowing that someone has won the 900 million lottery jackpot but not having checked my ticket yet, so it might still be me! I'm Schrödinger's millionaire right now!
So, when I saw "10" on the billboard this morning, I thought someone had won the 900 million. Nope, it turns out that it was "1.0" -- as in: nobody won and the jackpot is now 1 BILLION DOLLARS.
You could fix the water problems in Flint, MI, give millions to your loved ones, and still have more money than you can reasonably conceptualize left over.
I have always struggled with math (too many things to hold in my head at one time) and have had to rely a lot on just rote memorization, which... at best only gets you so far, and at worst is not a fun process.
