How can I be up-to-date with current developments of all #bsd without following their mailing lists? I'd love to know what they are cooking (got or graphical installer for example) but without following dev discussions, as those are too low-level for my needs.
Just came back from our 10 day trip from UAE. It was a great experience, learned a ton. I really enjoyed the hospitality of the Arabic / Muslim culture. For now I need to recover from the 12 hour journey home, I hope to share some thoughts in the next few days before heading to Vienna for ELS 2024.
"There’s a multitude of Operating Systems to choose from. You may have been using something like Windows or MacOS and be perfectly happy with it. You can step up and use Linux, Haiku or even Amiga OS. So, why do I think a BSD system may be a great choice?"
It’s telling so many in tech think the only reason for being against something like cryptocoins or “AI” is that it overhyped and won’t fulfil its promise, leading to companies failing…
When the strongest reason to be against them is that promise itself is genuinely horrifying and destructive
Does anyone know of vertical pc case with place to shove cd drive and without glass panel? The shape of NXWT H1 is perfect, but the other two things are absent.
Every time I post a link to my site on Mastodon, it locks up for like 30 seconds or so.
My theory is that because I have a quite a lot of followers (👋 hii!) the post hits a lot of instances and they all poll my site at the same time, effectively DDoS'ing it for a lil bit.
One day I'll run a packet capture and prove this theory…
One of the worst things that can happen to a new idea for reforming software development is to have DHH swoop in with a half-assed shitty implementation of it, poisoning the idea for a generation of devs
The greatest technical writer I know ( @mwl )is having a kickstarter for his next book - „Run your own mail server”. I’ve seen a draft (backed him months ago) and it is looking marvelous.
Another text for today - " Why you shouldn't run a BSD on a PC"
"Changing GNU/Linux distribution can be done on a whim, as underneath all of that you’ve got the same basic operating systems. With BSDs it’s not the same. One should try to understand the downsides, as not to waste the next 20 years exploring an OS that simply is not a good fit."
