This is a little hard to write, but sadly, I'll be missing PyCon US this year. Long story short: I hurt my knee. Still on crutches. Surgery likely...

I came close to hopping (literally) on a plane and heading out anyway, but it's probably not the wisest choice.

For those of you heading out, enjoy the conference, meet someone new, volunteer, and have fun!

Picked up since Iโ€™m finally done with HZD and havenโ€™t started BG3 yetโ€ฆ sadly not worth the money right now. Itโ€™s very cute, and the cat animations are especially good, but the controls are so janky that the main โ€œbe cat, do cat thingsโ€ loop just doesnโ€™t work. I had zero fun in the time I spent with it.

Hey, friends who are more with it than I amโ€ฆ I finally finished the game that was holding me back from starting , but I already feel choice paralysis about character creation. What classes have you enjoyed playing? Or if something wasnโ€™t fun, what should I avoid?

Iโ€™ve played D&D since the 80s, but this will be my first BG game.

The aurora borealis shines with pale green and deep magenta, filling the sky above a tree-filled suburban neighborhood.

Halp - Grammarly's free 'business' accounts for nonprofits just expired, and i didn't realize it would mean all my "Snippets" (a bank of frequently used formatted text accessible via shortcut) would no longer work (and also be deleted ๐Ÿ˜ญ )

Any alternatives out there to Snippets anyone can share?

Having to cut and paste identical answers to a bajillion PyCon sponsors a week out from the event is cracking my already strained sanity ๐Ÿ˜ญ

@bitprophet @lorenipsum I use Alfred for my snippets needs (itโ€™s one of the MANY things it can do, and itโ€™s not subscription-based), but TextExpander is also legit.

@tek Iโ€™m excited to see theyโ€™ll be in Cleveland (on a Friday night, no less!) but have some trepidation as they were awful when I saw them at the House of Blues here a number of years ago. Fingers crossed that a different venue might break that curse for me.

@tek The biggest problems I had were a complete lack of female vocalists, and that their fog machine set off the venue smoke alarms, which meant the house lights were all on and the only amplified sound was from the on-stage monitors/amps.

@webology @onelson Given the complete lack of plan for the sequel trilogy, Iโ€™d say they were just scrambling to give her an on-screen exit that made even a little sense, since theyโ€™d left her alive at the end of Ep8 and now couldnโ€™t film any new material for Ep9.

Slack should have an option to show all the times of things in both local time and UTC so I don't need to think so hard when I look at chats, then look at logs or metrics.

@grantmc When it was โ€œunscrew these 4 screws, where two of them have to be unscrewed clockwiseโ€ I was like โ€œokay thatโ€™s weird but I could do thatโ€. And then they used a solvent to melt some adhesive and I decided it wasnโ€™t for me. ๐Ÿ˜…

131/366: The Dimension Gate by Aurora Sutra

I waffled a bit about what to pick today as I get back to alpha-by-artist, but after seeing an actual aurora tonightโ€ฆ Yeah. Had to do it.

I havenโ€™t listened to this in a long time, but I remember I really dug the instrumental elements suite in the back half, and the third track, โ€œThe Garden of Temptationโ€, was on a cool sampler from Cleopatra Records that helped expand my tastes.
