So, McAvoy's character goes through this transformation when he becomes "The Beast" and basically he's grunting and hollering and flexing. There's a shot where he's doing this but the shot is ultra-wide, like he's across a large parking lot, with so much space between him and the camera.
I love this because it's so like you just turned a corner on the street and saw some guy acting crazy, and you'd probably just cross the street to keep your distance IRL.
@onelson A bit of the Star Wars treatment with those older characters. I kind of wish they just wouldn't bring characters back just to do that to them.
@onelson Unbreakable will always be in my top 5 or 10 movies. I kind of wish there were more in between it and Split, but maybe they just got lucky the first time around.
@webology Leia's death really annoyed me because, well, she was basically in a coma and she let herself "rejoin the force" at the same time Ben did the same, as if to sort of suggest she had been influential in his coming around, back to the light.
@onelson I wonder what they were planning before Carrie Fisher passed away. I wonder if that had any impact on the story or if they were planning this dud from the beginning.
@webology Really hard to say, but whether it was poor from the script or later on in the edit is sort of beside the point. At the end of the day, success can be accidental and it's still a success. The same is true for failure.
@onelson True, it just felt like they were bored and wanted to wrap it up.
I'll never understand why we have so much Anakin content out there, but the OG trilogy characters have been largely ignored for cartoons, series, etc. (I know the books exist, which is why it surprises me none of this never made it to the screen.)
@onelson Ya, both the Ewoks and Droids did, but they left the main characters out.
We have hundreds of Anakin cartoon episodes/backstories, though. I will still argue that was the worst trilogy of the three. I'd love to see even the new characters get some good fan service in their series. It sounds like Rey might.
@webology not a justification, but I think part of the answer to "why all the Anakin cartoons?" is just that the period of the clone wars has to be some of the most easy to fuck around with. Lots of action, many jedi around (exciting!)
It probably lends itself more trivially to the sorts of cartoons we see all over the place, other IPs.
@webology@onelson Given the complete lack of plan for the sequel trilogy, I’d say they were just scrambling to give her an on-screen exit that made even a little sense, since they’d left her alive at the end of Ep8 and now couldn’t film any new material for Ep9.
