The current SCOTUS continues to do what they’ve been doing since Dobbs. They make one decision that is pretty middle of the road “yep, that’s the right call”, and then the next five or six big decisions are all deeply unpopular, and wildly partisan. They think people don’t see the systematic erosion of democracy, separation of church and state, and equality. They are so fucking removed from actual society that they think this will all blow over.
Reduced my thoughts on Copilot+ PC, as announced, to a piece for Forbes.
TLDR: Also we should think about compliance with things like subpoenas and how completely can anything ever be deleted with such a system.
The more I think about it, the less this seems like a well thought-out product for pros. Dreamed up by coders that already have had their life’s work sucked up by GPT through #Github.
@andrew@law Seriously. And I've mentioned from another angle how awful this bloated mess would be for art/design/audio or video editing, for any kind of "enjoyment" or "hobbyist" use like gaming...
A privacy nightmare AND a privacy nightmare that eats resources you need for what you actually want to do, for the sake of turning your computer into a cop.
Hi folks, I know folks mean well when they post information on news events, but PLEASE vet your sources before reposting dramatic articles/etc. you see. If you're not familiar with the publication, DON'T POST IT. Or check on the source...
For example, I recently saw an article posted from the Daily Caller, which is essentially a channel for white supremacist propaganda, interspersed with other normal news.
@AE4WX@ai6yr seriously: Daily Caller is an instant block here too. That and Epoch Times and its related bullshit, and anything from the RT ecosystem (including Breakthrough News and Grayzone)
Why the hell risk everyone's security and privacy AND require far more space and processing power requirements (this is going to be a complete nightmare for gamers who run highest settings, even with the privacy issues aside - it will make these machines literally unusable for running high-demand anything)?
@wrosecrans@evacide (also, since gaming, graphic design, animation, film editing, and other high demand graphical applications are reasons people use Windows machines - e.g. because their favorite game or the program/app they need to use won't work/work well on Linux ... this is going to shoot them in the foot even outside of privacy issues, by making slow, buggy machines unsuited for those uses)
@wesdym@jesusmargar Joseph Campbell is an absolute racist, sexist hack and his bullshit "hero's journey/monomyth" only applies to one specific form of white, colonial storytelling
My grandfather’s son (Mark) was driving from Arizona to Florida to visit. Except he never made it and now we can’t get in contact with him. My grandpa’s been worried sick and the police won’t do anything because his son is in his 50s, so they say it’s his right to disappear.
@BakerRL75 Yeah, normally for me it's "if I'm on and see something" that said, usually for moderate risks or higher that seem to be panning out I'll drop other stuff and pay attention to live relays if I can
I've received my first "report" on hugs.lgbt and I'm very confused ....
Two posts were reported ... neither were from hugs.lgbt posts ... one was a reply to one of my posts by a mutual, the other was a post by that mutual without any hugs.lgbt involvement ...
Did I receive the report because one of those was a reply to a post of mine?
But why the other one?
Also very confused as to why ... the first was a thank you reply to a post from me.
The other was a meme.
The category was "other" but no notes or any other information that I could discern 🤔 🤷♂️
@paul@riversidebryan Also, it's possible to make a report by accident (not easy, because it requires a couple clicks, but if there's nothing at all in the reason and no posts quoted, that's a possibility, especially if someone is drunk or high and using a phone client)
@riversidebryan@paul Been there, almost did that once, caught it before sent thankfully (what happened was I was trying to report the post ABOVE it in my feed...)
