@chrisoffner3d @WeavingWithAI I agree, I think the two executives themselves are rather uninteresting for the fate of the company, it’s rather who they can convince to come with them and whether OpenAI can still recruit new talent. Is there any news on what really happened over the last few days? Was it really a struggle to decide between research and product-minded direction for the company?

@phwampfler hm, als Wissenschaftler finde ich das sehr problematisch, aber ChatGPT soll ja ein kommerzielles Produkt sein, also wird da natürlich rund um die Uhr dran geschraubt; für gute Analysen ist das natürlich nicht zuträglich.

@phwampfler in dem Fall stimmt mich die mangelnde Reproduzierbarkeit von Fehlern nachdenklich. OpenAI ist leider kein offenes Buch was ihre Modelle angeht und das macht es schwer damit kognitionswissenschaftliche Fragen zu bearbeiten. Und dann kommt natürlich noch dazu dass aufgrund ihrer schieren Größe und Kosten der Zugang in der Wissenschaft zu LLMs auch recht limitiert ist. Aber ich will nicht zu sehr jammern.

@marioguzman I wish there was something inbetween. I found the pinstripes of 10.2 always to be a bit distracting, but I like so much that tabs actually look like tabs, it is very clear to the user what this interface element is supposed to be.

@daniel hm, sometimes it’s the easiest solution to just replace.. but they also add stickers to the Apple logo when they open it, just to make sure not to scratch it. Anyway good you have „your“ computer back 👍🏻😊

Updated my iPad and now the clock font on the Lock Screen is different and it’s ruining my day.

Apparently you can customise this in iOS16 but NOT iPadOS16.

So anyway now I need a new Lock Screen image so it doesn’t feel so uncanny every time I see it.

    Ich werde wahnsinnig, wie heißt dieser Screen bei und wie editiere ich den? Es ist kein Teil des Control Centers und ich weiß nicht wonach ich im Menü suchen muss.

    /edit: Ich bin dumm, das ist einfach nur der Homescreen von ganz links der auch neben dem Control Center angezeigt wird.. hab’s jetzt

    @Kurorori hm, .. widget screen? Aber ehrlich gesagt ist bei mir ein Bearbeiten Knopf ganz unten. Ein Long-press auf eines der Widgets müsste dich aber auch die Option geben den Homescreen zu bearbeiten und damit auch die Widgets. Aber sonst mal neustarten…(?)

    @Kurorori durch die Kommentare inspiriert denke ich dass du erstmal entsperren und sobald du auf dem auf dem homescreen mit den Apps bist nach links wischen müsstest. Dann kommst du auf den regulären Widget Screen.. aus dem lockscreen heraus kommt man nur auf eine Variante von dem Screen die sich nicht bearbeiten lässt

    @marioguzman one thing that bugs me about this is that at some point they basically made it a regular Q, whereas before the “Time” of QuickTime was clearly visible in the iconography.

    Mail.app has this thing where network connections are always getting stuck and take forever to time out or finish. It's so bad that my method of checking for new mail involves force quitting the app and relaunching.

    @paul … Apple Mail is still my favourite email app and I think it needs some attention; but at the same time I don’t want Apple to break things as it is mostly functional and has some neat features. They touched it with „remind me“ last year and IMHO the implementation is so problematic on the Mac…

    @chrisoffner3d the “hallucination” or rather confabulation is an integral feature of current LLM systems and I don’t think there is a clear path to get rid of that. Not saying it’s impossible, but I feel like systems that cope with that would have to look substantially different having a memory structure they can infer from. To me it seems like he’s just trying to cater to his shareholders..

    I don't even mind calling the company #X, it's not that much worse than Meta. But IMHO there is no sane reason why one would throw away the brand value before any of the promised future services are up and running. This is just stupid, you could have easily called it Twitter by X. BTW I think twitter was probably the worst company one could have chosen to try to transform into a WeChat clone, but now I really wonder if the website just fades into insignificance.
