I honestly did not think people would care at all about my post from Saturday's West Marches prep, but it seemed to catch people's attention. I can post a bit more stuff. I'm 99% sure my players aren't on mastodon regularly (if you're one of my players, don't read this!)

folks: I'm looking for a good supply of maps that would work for a long-forgotten city in a steaming jungle. I really just want the maps - I can make a normal dungeon map myself, but I'm less confident in above-ground ruined cities.
Any suggestions? I'm looking at Ruins of Adventure and Dwellers of the Forbidden City (gonna grab the pdfs online) but if you can think of anything that fits the bill please let me know!

Oh damn, I have just had a REVELATION regarding my West Marches game. I felt like there was a gap I could not figure out how to fill in the setting that justified more dungeon-crawling and danger. By gum, I've got it!! Something that lets me pepper the map with dungeon-like stuff that I had not considered before, and another genre of weird monsters.

Soliciting more advice! This time about NPCs.
My feeling is that West Marches games benefit from being outside of civilization and safety. Danger is the whole point. So it can be difficult to justify the existence of non-hostile NPCs in that setting without undermining the challenges upon which the whole format hinges.

Are there any blogging services that automatically slice up long posts into 500-character (maximum), threaded posts when you publish? I like the idea of an ActivityPub compatible blog but I know a lot of people (myself included) aren't wild about huge, 10K character posts showing up on their feed.
I can imagine a service like this that provides a clean looking article when viewed on the originating site, but provides threaded posts on the federated TL.
Maybe this already exists?

As a reaction to enjoying the Fallout show I made the inadvisable decision to reinstall . I've played that game so much the corners are all rounded off so to spice it up I've decided to play on survival difficulty without ever spending a level-up.
I'm at level 12 and I'm discovering that this might just be impossible. Nothing other than the level up are off the table, so I may have to start cheesing the economy to just buy some legendary gear. Otherwise I think this playthrough is sunk.

Hey, folks: how do your games start? Do your characters talk? Do you dive right into whatever travel procedure you've established? What's the actual first 10-15 minutes of play involve in a campaign of that style?

I don't think it's a formal marketing tactic, but the fact that some ravens are nesting in the loading bay overhang at my local hardware store IS causing me to make more trips than are strictly necessary.

Tonight we were out in the front garden and a wall of fog rolled in like a wave in slow motion. We saw it pour in from an intersection up our street. Wild

I know rules differ from country to country, but I'm curious if anyone can answer this question, because I can't find a clear answer online:

You're approaching a four-way intersection. Three cars coming from the other directions arrive before you do. Nobody is turning.

The car directly across from you arrived first, and passes through the intersection. The car to your right goes next. Now it's just you and a car to your left who arrived before you.

Who goes first?

I sometimes struggle with blogging. The blogs that interest me are ttrpg advice blogs, written by much smarter people than myself. I have my own blog which I enjoy using, but I often feel that I should also be producing ttrpg advice. However, while I think about ttrpgs a lot, I play very infrequently and don't have that much to say about it!
I instead usually write about my campaign. I'm trying to give myself permission to do so, even if the posts aren't useful to others. It's just for fun!

I'm looking after my neighbour's kid for a couple of hours this afternoon. She and my daughter are hanging out.
"Nick, do you guys have anything to eat?"
"For sure! We have trail mix, yogurt drinks, apples, pears, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, cheese rice cakes, uh... chips, chocolate mini eggs... baby carrots, snap peas... anything sound tasty?"
"No, I don't like any of that stuff. I'm gonna look in your fridge."
We eventually settled on peanut butter on rice cakes!

I don't know why I'm feeling wrung out lately. By all accounts things are pretty good right now. But I'm just devoid of good vibes.
I want to be left alone for a week to watch bad movies and lie on the couch in silence. But I don't know why!

I've never done an post on here and I don't have a pinned post, so here goes:
I'm Nick. Pronouns he/him. I live in Toronto and I work in tech as a... technical artist, kinda?
I love to run and I'm leaning more towards rules-light stuff. I play far less often than I'd like.
I also talk about parenting, video games, and sometimes (rarely) post my art.

I have finished watching the show. I enjoyed it! It was... fine, if not phenomenal.

I have some questions I'm wondering if anyone has answers to that I will put behind a spoiler tag.

I sidle up behind my wife and run my hand along the small of her back. I whisper in her ear.
"After kiddo goes to bed tonight..."
"Yeah?"
"...let's cuddle up on the couch..."
"Uh huh?"
"..and watch The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift"

I can't see her face, but she sighs heavily (I must assume from anticipation)

It has begun. I sat my wife down to watch the first Fast and Furious film together. It's important to start at the start to see how far the franchise has come.
