Learning how to play monk for a one-shot this week. I usually play healers, so naturally I went Way of Mercy! I made this combat flowchart in Obsidian Excalidraw to help me get it straight in my head.

@powersoffour I do use the keyboard shortcuts, yes. And I just start and add to it incrementally. It changes and grows quite a bit! I don't really plan out what it's going to look like because I'm diagramming as I go. Is it the planning out that's stopping you?

@nicole@pkm.social avatar

@powersoffour Let me know if you have any questions! Sometimes it helps to have someone to ask stuff to. Also @zsviczian is here if you have any thornier questions.

@undeuxtrois Yeah, it's a D&D 5e class! :) It came out in Tasha's Cauldron of Everything, an official WotC book.

@powersoffour Absolutely not a derailment!

Sign in my hotel room in London. The door was stuck, and the maintenance crew helpfully "fixed" it by putting up a sign. Naturally I got transferred to a room with, you know, a door that actually opens and closes.

@EpiphanicSynchronicity That's what was so concerning! Reception was Not Impressed.

@nicole, why do you link the titles in your notes?

Like this: [[{{title}}]]

nicole,
@nicole@pkm.social avatar

@austingovella It's so that the heading changes if I change the filename of the note!

For visual notes to fit into your Personal Knowledge Management (PKM) system, you're going to need to be able to link them and embed them just like you would any other notes. Here's a video where I talk about how to link/embed to visuals, text within visual notes, and even parts of visuals with Obsidian Excalidraw by @zsviczian: https://youtu.be/lGh53N_Lj2Q

@tisba Ugh. Thanks for letting me know. I can't chase down this phantom hum!

@tisba Ooooh! Thank you. I will look into that too. That’s really useful.

I really need to rethink my participating in sessions, along with other ! It never really appealed to me before. 🤔

I might have to start watching more of @nicole content! 🙂

@torspedia Playing TTRPGs, including my weekly games with @apolaine and @leah in the last few years, has utterly changed my life.

I've formed deep friendships with people I hope will be in my life forever. This depth, amidst a sea of online shallowness, has been a lifeline for me. Gaming can also be therapeutic. Funny what you learn about yourself when you THINK you're creating a fictional character.

Shout out to @apontious @SlRvb and @therealfakemoot whom I've played with more recently too! ❤️

@torspedia @apolaine @leah @apontious @SlRvb @therealfakemoot Why yes he does. Here's a comparison of how we both use Obsidian for the same game: https://www.youtube.com/live/8IyaSGI8X8Q?si=b2s6VTj2ZkliNzCN

Been using Slurp (an plugin) a few days now. For safe keeping info that can skip my Omnivore flow. (E.g. blood test results. Or recommendations for a holiday spot.)

It works well!

“Slurps webpages and saves them as clean, uncluttered Markdown. Think Pocket, but better.”

@geffrey I'm really wanting to suss out all the options on this space. Why would you want to bypass your Omnivore flow? And why not use Readwise?

Got set up and synced using Obsidian Sync on my install. That's a big yay.

Now we'll start the vs tussle. May the better solution win.

Got to say that finding a good syncing solution for orgmode is critical. And github isn't it. Suggestions welcome.

nicole,
@nicole@pkm.social avatar

@h_d @birv2 I was coming here to suggest Syncthing too! That would be my pick.

@ivory I’m seeing a lot of missing profile pictures on Ivory iOS and MacOS. Doesn’t seem to be a particular server and they appear when I open them in a browser. Resetting cache sync in the settings did nothing. Or do I need to log out and in again?

nicole,
@nicole@pkm.social avatar

@apolaine @ivory +1 to this. I'm seeing the same thing, and only on Ivory for macOS and iOS. Opening an affected account's page in the browser or in another client displays the profile photo without any issues.

I published a list of note titles from my folder 'Garden of the Forking Paths' which are the more conceptual notes in my system. A little experiment wrt after @nicole presentation at https://www.zylstra.org/blog/pkm/current-notion-titles/

@nicole@pkm.social avatar

@ton Leuk! Waarom publiceer je niet de notes? De titels zijn interessant!

I think that the perfect , for me, would have a morning page for a day on the left (mind dump, brainstorm, fleeting thoughts), and a diary page on the right (what happened that merits remembering).

I suppose I could achieve that with a blank book of some kind and just write in the dates.

I do love my , though. Is there a blank book that compact and well designed?

18+ nicole,
@nicole@pkm.social avatar

@markmcelroy My standard notebook is a Rhodia Webbie (just finished one today), but I'm really loving Tomoe River paper recently - it's fantastic for fountain pens. So I'll probably be getting the Endless Notebook in plain soon too. I like the Midori Traveller notebooks as well, and I've finished a few of those.
