May all beings everywhere, with whom we are inseparably interconnected and who want and need the same as we do,
May all be liberated, healed, fulfilled and free.
May there be peace in this world and throughout all possible universes, an end to war, violence, poverty, injustice and oppression, and may we all together complete our journey of enlightenment. -

I got COVID-19 back in mid-February for the first time. I'm feeling a lot better, but I have strange lingering symptoms. It's April 7th. Tired and loss of focus by 2pm, and ever since I got infected, I've been smelling weird odors and having similar aftertastes. Not consistent at all. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms?
@longcovid

@longcovid
That post reminded me of other symptoms. As originally mentioned, I get tired and lose focus, by 2pm. Sometimes I'm useless after 2. I get winded or out of breath easier than before.
I get so drained that I must go sleep sometimes. I get a weird phantom fever where it feels like I have a fever, but when I check, I don't. I smell strange odors. I get strange aftertastes or just weird random tastes, similar to the odors. There are about five alternating odors and tastes.

@longcovid
And during the peak illness, I couldn't get over how strange an illness it was/is. I supposedly got a mild case. It was weird though. Hard to describe. Symptoms kept drastically changing every few days. It was like having several strange illnesses. At the onset I thought maybe it was just allergies. A couple days in and it kicked in full force and has been morphing ever since. I'm glad the dry hacking is over.

Thanks for the advice and resources.

It's a shame that "public health" entities aren't informing us w/similar info. Some of my colleagues are acting like my tiredness in the afternoon is normal because they and everyone gets tired in the afternoon. The thing is, this is a symptom I didn't have before COVID. Sure, people can become tired without having COVID, but when you get COVID and your symptoms continue, you notice they continue. This has been a very unique illness.

@Ustinoff
Thanks for this info. I'm just learning about this aspect of the infection. Of course the "public health" entities in my country aren't making this aspect known, and colleagues are acting like this is all fine and normal. As if what are obviously lingering symptoms, are not lingering symptoms. Luckily I have naturally been pacing and resting when I need to. But it's helpful to have specific, focused info and to know that my symptoms are common and how to best proceed.

@Frieke72
Mine seems like tiredness to me. Sometimes it's the exhaustion and I must sleep. More commonly I am tired by about 2pm and can't focus anymore. It's pretty extreme, but doesn't feel like exhaustion.

@graviton
I'm finding it restful to stop and do something that isn't physically or mentally exerting. Playing with or brushing cats, journaling, meditation, stretching or checking into how my body is feeling, checking emails (elusive inbox 0), organizing things. Anything that gives me time to rest and recharge.

@Rhube
Yes! Meditation and journaling have been great helps, both during and after the acute illness. And yes, the different body scans and breathing meditations. I've also resumed my walking, and coupling this with meditation and taking it slow is key for me.
@Frieke72 @longcovid

@Frieke72 Great ideas. I'm starting to understand what people are meaning by compartmentalizing and pacing. I have plenty or pre-COVID levels of energy and can easily over do it. Then I have crashed or become tired so to speak. I see I need to slow down and take this more seriously in order to have a good chance at recovery. Thank you. @longcovid

notes,
@notes@social.coop avatar

@longcovid As I've been adjusting to office hours and in person meetings, my colleagues invariably ask how I'm feeling after COVID. I usually just share that I am feeling better, but get very tired by 2pm. They laugh and usually share something about how that is normal and they get tired in the afternoon as well. I have to comment then that I've not felt this way prior to COVID, and that there are other lingering symptoms. The subject is usually dropped at that point.

@ahimsa_pdx Thank you for this. I'll look into orthostatic intolerance. Also, I love reclining with feet elevated, and lying down with feet elevated when possible.
@longcovid

notes,
@notes@social.coop avatar

@JetlagJen So familiar. Yes, I get that a lot too, "you seem fine." I really am not. Such a strange world/society. They say if you need help to ask. You ask and they share some kind of crisis hotline, or direct you to a directory of some kind. Ok, thanks. I see that I was right in believing that there is not really any help. Nothing of serious consequence. You have to be at the end of the line, rock bottom to get any help. Otherwise, everything is fine.
@longcovid

notes,
@notes@social.coop avatar

@JetlagJen On our own as usual. I think that I lucked out in that while under the acute period, my work flow was pretty slow and I was able to just rest a lot. That likely helped me to get where I am now, but it's great to hear that this was the right strategy, and to keep it up.

@beandreams
Good ideas! I also need to remember use the phrase "continued symptoms" so it's clear they began with COVID and have not gone away yet.

I've been dozing but not quite napping a lot, which I find weirdly frustrating.
I've been adapting to this by "visualizing a nap" -- which adds a more restful and fruitful quasi-meditation vibe.

Where would you want to "visualize a nap?"
It's totally imaginary, so you could nap floating in outer space, zipped into a sleeping bag full of kittens....
What would be your Most Awesome Nap?

I love to focus more on my breath and body with different versions of body scans, and drop off to sleep. Adding a place visualization would be an interesting element to add. I used to like to visualize a sort of courtyard that one might find at a Japanese style Pagoda, with different areas, covered and open. That might be a good start.

"Many people cannot allow themselves the time to sit and do nothing but breathe. They consider it to be uneconomical or a luxury. People say 'time is money.' But time is much more than money. Time is life. The simple practice of sitting quietly on a regular basis can be profoundly healing. Stopping and sitting is a good way to focus on mindful breathing and nothing else."
