A whole freaking FLOCK of Birds of Paradise doubly-lit in the late afternoon L.A. light.

The sunset is backlighting them, while a bright bounce off of a window behind me lights them from the front.

No wonder so many filmmakers gravitated here.

A pair of house finches has decided to nest in the eaves above my bedroom window. Watched the two of them zoom in and out from under the roof and occasionally sit in the tree and sing.

He had no idea I was standing right there, not six feet from his perch in the tree outside.

Just before I got the camera out for these two, a hummingbird flew right up to the glass and checked me out. I could have easily touched it, it was so close.

A small white terrier places the back of a blue couch. As the camera moves left, she runs along the couch, then jumps down to the arm, leaps the gap to the next couch, then up onto its back and towards the door. When the camera stops, she sits briefly, then retraces her steps in reverse to not be so close to me. When I move a little further toward the door, she comes back and sits, waiting. As the camera pans around, a second brown terrier is on the floor, licking her lips in anticipation. Boomer, a Great Dane/Mastiff, also waits impatiently.

Once I fixed the Frontier tech’s rookie mistake - he plugged the WAN line into the 1gb port - it’s screaming fast.

Replaced the supplied Amazon eero router with a TP-Link 2.5gb router, plugged in a new 2.5gb switch, and reconnected the eero to THAT, it still screams and the rest of the wired network gets 2.5gb speed, too, where the device supports it.

It shouldn’t be this hard, #frontier

I hope this is just bad anecdotal data.

Rented a Chevy Bolt EUV for this overnight stay. Drove it about 40 miles.

Found a ChargePoint near the airport rental return to top it off.

First charger wouldn’t connect. Says the charger isn’t “fully inserted.” I have a plug in hybrid at home, so I know how these things work.

Switched to the second charger (of 2), and it started right up. Says it will take … wait for it … TWO AND A HALF HOURS to put 40 miles back on the battery.

No. Fucking. Way.

Dunno about where you are, but around here GrubHub and all the other delivery services add 25% (yes you read that right, twenty five percent) to every menu item.

AND they have the balls to add “fees” on top of that, which they claim goes to “improving their service.“

Even the “order for pickup with no fees” app Postmates added 25% to Thai food last week. For the “convenience” of not calling the restaurant directly.

Bastards. Greedy bastards.

Apple Maps needs a new category for e-bike rides. This was estimated at 110 minutes for cycling. It took me 69.

I figure it’s about 30% less time than Maps estimate, closer to 40% when there’s hills involved.

Went to Claro’s Italian market in La Habra for some dinner groceries and deli sandwiches. Rode lots of the smaller little roads over the hills instead of the main highway.

Great workout - I needed that.
