I hope this is just bad anecdotal data.

Rented a Chevy Bolt EUV for this overnight stay. Drove it about 40 miles.

Found a ChargePoint near the airport rental return to top it off.

First charger wouldn’t connect. Says the charger isn’t “fully inserted.” I have a plug in hybrid at home, so I know how these things work.

Switched to the second charger (of 2), and it started right up. Says it will take … wait for it … TWO AND A HALF HOURS to put 40 miles back on the battery.

No. Fucking. Way.

California Superbloom all over the hills during my ride today. Sadly is mostly Black Mustard, but these cool purple flowers were popping through in one of the trails.

Easy ride today, just 3.5 miles and 417 feet of climbing. Great to be outdoors.

An endless hillside of bright yellow flowers dominates the foreground. It is primarily Black Mustard, brought here by Spanish settlers. Trees on hills in the distance form the background. The sky is overcast.

Apple Maps needs a new category for e-bike rides. This was estimated at 110 minutes for cycling. It took me 69.

I figure it’s about 30% less time than Maps estimate, closer to 40% when there’s hills involved.

Went to Claro’s Italian market in La Habra for some dinner groceries and deli sandwiches. Rode lots of the smaller little roads over the hills instead of the main highway.

Great workout - I needed that.

Dad did a lot of woodworking, and I know pretty much all of the tools in his garage.

This one has me flummoxed. It has what appears to be threaded holes, though the threads are shallow. Each hole is labeled with a diameter. The whole thing is hinged at one end, with thumb screws to close it tight.

It’s in a drawer with a tap and die set, some hacksaws and a box of forstner bits.

Anyone have an idea?

There I was, snug in bed, reading the digital edition of the paper and loving not having to troop down the driveway to fetch a waterlogged physical edition.

And the power went out.

I knew I should have brought the generator in out of the rain. It’s covered, but about as much use as my coffee maker.

My son and his GF found these two German Shepard pups along the side of Brea Canyon road this evening. No tags, thin, some ticks, and minor cuts and bruises. We’ll be getting them checked for microchips tomorrow when the local shelter opens.

Look to be a couple months old. Both males. They ate like they hadn’t eaten in days. Well-behaved and perfectly content in a temporary crate in the garage.

Been wondering about some of the "Hulking pickups are too big for parking spaces" discussions.

I know most cars/trucks have gotten bigger over time. I decided to research 20 years of size change for a couple examples: a Toyota RAV-4 mini SUV, and a Dodge RAM 2500 pickup.

I checked dimensions for both using Edmund's statistics for relevant years, and tabulated what I found.

Note the most succinct argument against "Trucks are too big to park" - the width has remained essentially unchanged for two decades. 4x8 sheets of wood fit across the bed - did then, still do.

The Toyota, on the other hand, has gotten wider and wider - nearly 5 inches wider. A Tesla Model S is just over an inch narrower than a pickup. A model X is less than an inch narrower.

The weight, too, has grown - over 45% increase for the Toyota, vs. 15% for the truck.

Pickup grill height, on the other hand, is completely out of control. GMC, Toyota especially looking at you.

A spreadsheet showing dimensions for the RAM 2500 / quad cab 6' bed from year 2002 to year 2019, with % change for each category. 2002 2009 2019 Wheelbase 138.7 140.5 149 7% Length 2241 227.7 238.8 7% Width 79.3 79.5 79.5 0% Height 77.2 78.6 79.9 3% Weight 5,769 6,106 6,643 15%._

Been dealing with Long Term Care (LTC) insurance claim since my mother passed in April. There was a claim open for benefits for just under a year prior to her passing.

The claim settlement statement screwed up BOTH the start and the end of the claim.

Start date was April 2022, with a 90 day deductible period. That would put benefits starting in July. Somehow the care provider only sent invoices from August onward. Don’t know yet if this was an LTC issue or a caregiver mistake.

Today’s Labor Day labors involved installing a ceiling fan in the office.

I hate the “disposable” economy we’ve built.

The original fan lasted about a year before it stopped spinning. The housing and blade supports were hot, so I turned off the power and let it cool down.

Removing the fan, I found that the 9 pin connector from light kit to fan had melted. One fan wire was actually fully disconnected from the connector.

Dunno about where you are, but around here GrubHub and all the other delivery services add 25% (yes you read that right, twenty five percent) to every menu item.

AND they have the balls to add “fees” on top of that, which they claim goes to “improving their service.“

Even the “order for pickup with no fees” app Postmates added 25% to Thai food last week. For the “convenience” of not calling the restaurant directly.

Bastards. Greedy bastards.

Paper receipt from the drive-thru for the same meal from the same restaurant. Total $14.21

Let’s be clear: we are currently in the middle of Flood season.

The other three are, in no particular order: Fire, Earthquake and Drought.

My decade+ old desktop with Windows 10 still works surprisingly well. Only change from the initial build was the addition of an SSD for the OS.

Yes, I have better machines around the office (a dual-Xeon workstation, an AMD Ryzen 7 laptop etc.) but I still find the old workhorse quite sufficient.
