I just saw "Matrix 5" is in the works. When will Hollywood start producing new content instead of rebooting, remaking, or putting out the 5-10th installment of existing movies over and over again. Same goes for TV IMO.
I'm reminded of a bit from "The Simpsons" about Charles Bronson in "Death Wish 9."
Very sad news for movie lovers: the legendary Roger Corman has died at age 98. Here's a tribute to him from Variety. Tell us what you loved about Corman in the comments.
Was going through some old cornball action films, and it's really a shame that these two films were at different studios, because a Nic Cage cameo (as his character from 'Gone in 60 Seconds') would have been really fun in a Fast & Furious sequel...
Arabs suffer from a long and systematic stereotyping from the West. From the Orientalist movement of the 18th century till today, Western perceptions of Arabs and by extension Muslims, are based on what they have been conditioned to believe through the media be it in the form of literature, art, and more recently, movies and...
Is this a sign of the times for the movie business and creative professions in general? The Art Directors Guild (ADG) has suspended its Production Design Initiative program, which gives people hands-on training and job placements, saying, "we cannot in good conscience encourage you to pursue our profession while so many of our members remain unemployed.” The unemployment rate for members of the ADG currently stands at 75 percent. Here's more from IndieWire.
Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best says his career "began and ended" with "Star Wars." As "Phantom Menace" celebrates its 25th anniversary, he told People magazine "Everybody came for me ... I'm the first person to do this kind of work, but I was also the first Black person, Black man." He remembers being ostracized from motion-capture work after the movie came out, but forged a new career as an educator and co-founder of the AfroRithm Futures Group. Here's more.
Stunt doubles are highly skilled and trained professionals who are often at risk through their work, but part of their job is staying away from fame. “Anonymity has always been the contract that we’ve agreed to, and it’s partly for the audience’s benefit,” says David Leitch, director of "The Fall Guy," who was Brad Pitt's stunt double for a decade. The Hollywood Reporter talked to him and Ben Jenkin, Logan Holladay and Chris O’Hara, three of the stunt performers from "The Fall Guy" about how they created the movie's action sequences, and the fight to get industry recognition for their profession. Tell us in the comments what you think the greatest stunt in movie history is.
"We all know he's guilty," says the Hollywood Reporter's Kim Masters of Harvey Weinstein. She looks into some of the consequences of MeToo accusations — who has lost their job or been brought to justice, and who hasn't — and what might happen next.
That's where #villeneuve seems to have learned that painful lesson, as he had, I think, a multi movie deal from the get go. That's more strategy, or working the #hollywood system, tho.
Harvey Weinstein's accusers have reacted to the overturning of his New York conviction. The Silence Breakers, a group of sexual assault survivors and Weinstein accusers who represent more than 90 women called the news "disheartening" and "profoundly unjust," but say it's merely a setback as Weinstein continues to serve time in a California prison. Anita Hill, chair and president of The Hollywood Commission, said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter: "Many survivors do not pursue justice because they believe nothing will be done. Today’s decision underscores the urgent need for systemic changes in our institutions." Here's more.
For a decade, Hollywood hasn’t aggressively fought piracy because it saw people would pay if they made them a good deal.
But as streaming has gotten worse and more expensive, consumers turned back to file sharing. Now the industry plans to get Congress to pass new legislation to stop them.
