Okay so this is an insane deal on 3M Aura N95 masks

440 of them for $60 - 14 cents each. 90% off the normal price.

It's Amazon, so stipulated that sucks, but if you are still masking (or anticipating a new surge or a new airborne pandemic or a bad wildfire) this is probably too good a deal to pass up

@skinnylatte I already ordered one set, but actually was just thinking of ordering another so, sure, I'll go halves with you on another order. I'm buying for two people so having 600 would just mean maybe a year and a half of new masks every day. I'm still in Amazon so want me to order?

I'd actually argue that the language on the sticker next to the plug suggests that it is allowable for a rider to use it.

It says "By using this outlet, the user assumes..."

It says nothing about only being for BART personnel, which would be an obvious thing to have included if that's what they wanted. But they didn't.

And I don't think any of us think this would have happened if the offender looked like this rather than Robinson

Definitely worth the masked BART hop to hear @pluralistic in convo with @robinsloan talking new books and sundry tangy tangents, but really what i want to know now is who makes these SHOES

    @divya @skinnylatte otoh I just successfully shooed a car out of a crosswalk in Chinatown. Sometimes I like my badge.

    @divya @skinnylatte Well, City ID more than badge. And it gets me more threats of physical violence than compliance, to be honest.

    This was a really interesting read (thanks @Daojoan and also @skinnylatte from sharing)

    What it made me realize, or rather remember, is... I like creators

    I always have, and until fairly recently I paid for their stuff regularly and consistently.

    There are a few authors I would buy every book when it came out. (Jude at Borderlands had my list and would just set aside a new hardback for me every time.)

    I would buy every Ani Difranco, Billy Bragg, and björk album when it came out.

    I was hooked on some TV shows. Brooklyn 99. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But thinking about the "creator" economy, also Julia Child.

    If we want these things - and I think we do - we need to support the people who make them.

    So...

    San Francisco taxpayers are helping make a few nonprofit leaders very wealthy. Nearly $800k a year in compensation for the CEO of the "Low Income Investment Fund"? Seriously?

    Now watch them overwork and underpay their front-line workers.

    Nonprofit industrial complex indeed.

    @skinnylatte I've got friends coming in from London. If you were going to recommend three or four places for them to eat in SF or Berkeley that would be great and also stuff that they would be less likely to find in London (a pretty good food city)...

    nwchapman,
    @nwchapman@sfba.social avatar

    @skinnylatte Appreciate it. I was thinking of taking them to Wahpepah's Kitchen - the Native American place. That should be unusual. And deffo burritos and pupusas. There's so much good African food in London, not even going to try with that. But possibly pho or banh mi?

    nwchapman,
    @nwchapman@sfba.social avatar

    @divya @skinnylatte Yeah, I don't think they are going to want to travel to eat, even for decent South Indian food. I'm trying to identify places that will be in areas they will be visiting anyway - so not even Oakland, really. (I will be driving them around in Marin, but otherwise they will be public transiting.)

    nwchapman,
    @nwchapman@sfba.social avatar

    @skinnylatte I actually had both Cantoo and Cocina Mama Cholita on the lists for them, I think from you recommending them earlier.

    nwchapman,
    @nwchapman@sfba.social avatar

    @skinnylatte @divya Yeah. Marin will probably just be eating in Pt Reyes Station after a very full day of West Marin. More about fuel and fatigue at that point. I wish Stellina were still there - had some really decent post hike meals there.

    Q8. What are the considerations, aside from gear, related to riding in wet weather? What do you do to maintain traction and visibility? How else do you ride differently, or what else do you do when cycling in the rain?
