I feel like I'd go back in time happily in Malaysia / Malaya to try to eat all the foods, now lost or changed, in the 50s.

I am not sure I would want to eat this other than as a joke.

Luke Spray discusses activating the public realm in his piece in the substack "Space Craft"

He says "San Francisco’s public realm is overseen by a dozen departments whose responsibilities are often as singular as a street pole."

There's some truth to that.

But.

I'm one of those departments. And I don't see myself as a street pole so much as a street light, trying to illuminate processes and possibilities for people. And permitting certain kinds of interventions in the public realm is (most of) my job.

If you have ideas for public place-making you'd like to see, reach out to me. You can find me on (shudder) LinkedIn or just look me up in City government.

"The conservative project of the past 40 years has been ... to return the great majority of us to the status of desperate, forelock-tugging plebs who know our places. Hence the return of child labor, the tradwife movement, and of course the attacks on labor unions and voting rights"

    Regarding the concerns raised about Overdrive/Libby and privacy/data sharing...

    I contacted SFPL and received a reply which suggests there may not be an issue, or as much of an issue, as it at first appeared.

    The response I received follows

    nwchapman,
    @nwchapman@sfba.social avatar

    @divya So that actually sounds fine.- and actually makes me feel bad about how sternly worded the email I sent to them was. Am I missing something? Doesn't that seem to say there is no real area for concern?

    I suppose the one question I might have is whether Overdrive (or its owners) can change the terms of the agreement so that they would be able to do more sharing later of data already in the system.

    This is shocking - particularly when you think back to when librarians were so excellent about resisting requests for lists of borrowed titles a decade or two ago.

    This should be raised immediately - in very firm tones - with SF Public Library

    I'm ceasing all use of their ebook systems immediately.
