Welcome to my tiny corner of the internet! I'm an accessibility specialist for WhatsApp, which is about the least exciting thing about me. I also play video games--while blind! I hosted a politics podcast with Matt Cooper called The Game Is Rigged from 2017-2018. I've produced and acted in the Worm full-cast Audiobook project. I host a weekly show called Thoughtfood on Venom.FM from 12 to 3 PM PST on Sundays. I also sing and play drums. I'm even a snappy dresser--though this is disputed!

Like shit, developers should know these days that if they don't communicate, cynical assholes like me will gladly come up with the worst possible reason for why they're suddenly going to $60 per... year hopefully? Subscriptions. Damn. Did the whole AIRA drama teach these devs nothing?

@objectinspace@freeradical.zone avatar

@devinprater If I understand the situation correctly (which, I could totally not, I don't use it so am only barely tracking) the news was broke by someone else, and the TTS engines that power the whole thing are also charging on a subscription basis. Both of those are outside of the control of the developer.

@devinprater I could be wrong, like I say I'm not following it. But I kind of assume they follow the Waves model where they always have a "new" version that comes out every year that adds new compatability or models or whatever but doesn't really change anything major.

So out of all the reasons to not keep many many tabs open in your browser, I just discovered one more.
Close your tabs when you're done, folks. Otherwise... you might end up bookmarking 114 pages instead of the 1 you had intended.
Now if you'll excuse me... I need to spend fifteen years figuring out which bookmarks to actually keep.

objectinspace,
@objectinspace@freeradical.zone avatar

@JesseF8693 I never use bookmarks, I use the address autocomplete in Chrome or search history.

Trying out Audon. Doesn't seem very accessible (lots of unlabeled buttons) but that's easily fixed. COme say hi to me (assuming I can figure this out)! https://audon.space/u/@objectinspace@freeradical.zone

@miki I was able to hear you, not sure if you could hear me or not? Maybe I muted myself on accident.

Asked by Semafor if Tucker Carlson's firing had anything to do with a harassment lawsuit recently filed by a former Fox News producer -- one who'd worked on Carlson's show -- the ex-producer's attorney responded: "I have no comment on those reports other than to say that timing is a matter of physics, and as such is undeniable.”

@dell I hope he takes it.

Years of legal work & advocacy later, Lyft & Uber drivers are still refusing rides to blind customers with service animals and the companies are still maintaining it's not really their responsibility—this time the blind rider just happened to be a senior judge in DC, so the Washington Post picked up the story: "A federal judge was refused a Lyft ride with his guide dog. He’s not alone."

[Note: This issue is not limited to the US tho laws differ.]

@krisnelson "Waitasec, you mean to tell me blind people adjudicate law? How do they even get to work without a car to--oh"

Seems that LTT's doesn't want my money. Their website has some issues for users, I opened a support ticket almost a week ago, not heard back from them. I offered to take them through what's wrong with the site on a call, free-of-charge and everything. Oh well.

By the by, many people on BlueSky are mentioning how Mastodon didn’t feel welcoming and was very confusing.

Especially people from marginalized communities like Black Twitter.

@thomasfuchs Is bluesky accessible? If not (and most startups aren't), it's pretty unwelcoming to my comunity at least.

Folks have been talking a lot about QT's lately. I'll just relay my personal experience:
I can't count how many times I've come across a post, thought "that post is stupid, let me show my followers so I can make fun of it," then remember that quote tweets aren't a thing. I then go: "Oh. Well. Hm. Probably for the best TBH"... and then I move on with my life!
F*cking glorious.
Not everyone uses QT's this way, but I absolutely did.
Having that urge taken from me isn't a bad thing.

A few people have recommended me recently, i know, it's not one of the most secure apps, there are a few things about it I don't like, but it seems to be popular enough so people are using it these days, same as , which I like much more, however like I have said for a couple of times, I don't like the fact that if I want to talk to someone on I have to share my phone number, on Telegram I can hide it. Another alternative is , but I can't find any good, active servers/groups I could join. I won't mention other apps, because they are usually either inaccessible or paid. So are there any groups on Telegram related to the and I could join, if I decided to instal and use this app. I'm just curious. Thank you.

@Piciok @cherti @Dorota WhatsApp lets you pick different notifications for different contacts, there are about 20 or so. But it doesn't look like you can add your own. I wonder if they'd show up if you copied files to the right folder? I believe you can pick whatever sounds you want on Android, weird limitation.

@healyn I quote Grand Moff Tarken: "Fear will keep these systems in line. Fear of this battlestation." They called it a death star for the same reason they blow up a planet full of noncombatants before the millitary base: to scare the pants off everyone else.
