People say that the sound quality in Apple Music is way better than in Spotify. What is the technical explanation here?
It can't be a problem of the encoding pipeline. This problem has been solved decades ago. #spotify#applemusic#soundquality#audiophile#music#opus#aac#vorbis
@nighthawk Might be a good explanation, but would this not mostly apply to older music that got remastered or what's the difference between a normal master and an Apple digital master?
Hey internet friends 🤗 I have a big announcement to make and this time it doesn't have anything to do with apps 🤓
Last month, our daughter was born and it is so incredible and wonderful to have her in the family now. I haven't been very active here nor done any work recently, as my wife and I were busy getting to know the little one and enjoying quality time to bond as a young family 🧑🧑🧒 🥰
PS: As many of you know I am very fond of dad jokes, so now I am officially entitled to make ‘em 😜
If you're looking for an explanation of what's happening at Google with the current layoffs, just watch this video. Steve Jobs' reflections about what happened at Apple provide the best explanation. It's something you'll encounter in all corporate companies. #google#stevejobs#layoffs
Unfortunately I think the „remote work“ and „work from home“ culture contributed a lot to it. It made it totally acceptable to work with people that you won’t meet anyway in reality.
If you're job can be done from home, it can also be done from India.
TIL: A group of universities are working on a route planer specifically designed for pedestrians and cyclists, which prefers cooler and less polluted routes!
@vsaw Actually, not a big problem. BBBike/bbybike has had this feature for ages. It's just a matter of tweaking the penalty heuristic of the routing algorithm, such as A* or Dijkstra.
@angel Frage mich eher was die Politik macht.
Congratulations @kepano for finding a revenue and growth model that fits your product, company and users.
Sadly that path does not work for everyone. Depending on what you’re trying to build, the development comes with significant upfront costs, where you need investments. As governments usually don’t support commercial developments much, all that’s left is #VC. And as with any tool, it can be a great choice, if used correctly.
@marekfort@vsaw@kepano Hopefully, with less VC money in the market, these kinds of businesses can compete again. In the ZIRP era, it was nearly impossible to compete against VC-driven companies, since they easily outspent you, and user expectations were mostly about getting stuff for free.
As callous as Google’s and other big tech layoffs have been by sending you an email saying you’re unemployed, the viral Cloudflare layoff video is proof that it would be even worse optics for companies to do more.
Best to realize we’re all just numbers on a spreadsheet to corporations. Expecting loyalty from them is like expecting a hug from a rock. It’s so impossible as to be nonsensical.
shot in the dark, but does anyone have any good sources for the current patent sitch with AAC? particularly AAC-LC.
a few big open source projects are starting to include it, but i'm not convinced it's safe for us to do the same with tangara; i worry that attempting to sell an actual physical device that advertises any kind of AAC support could very easily make us a target for the (quite predatory imo) org that handles AAC licensing
Is there a version of Tetris for the iPhone that supports hardware keyboards? I personally cannot stand Tetris with touch control, but this could be absolutely awesome for the Clicks* keyboard.
