@vasta This hit in a weird way for me. My organization uses Slack, but it's always felt to me like they're doing it wrong. Most of our channels are private, so I can't find them without being invited. I frequently ask if they're discussing nuclear codes when someone invites me to a private channel. But beyond that, most conversation happens in threads (which don't mark a channel as unread) or in DMs (which again, is private).
I own the domains neighbors.social and neighbrs.social, but have yet to figure out what to do with them. I think I was originally thinking of some sort of Fediverse type thing, but now I just have no clue.

@hunter Geo-tagged pictures of your neighbors' lawn gnomes. Then steal them and take them on vacation, taking pictures at every stop. Return them with an awesome picture book of their travels.
It sucks when your conference or event only uses Twitter/X to post updates/details, and I can’t view the posts without logging in, but I do not have a Twitter account.
@ramsey I still squat on my Xitter (pronounced Shitter) account to keep anyone from using my name. I also assume people still on there are either Nazis or okay with Nazis and judge them appropriately. Yes, there is still good journalism being done there. No, I'm not going to engage with that quality journalism if it means supporting Nazis.

You can't get banned from Xitter for being a Fascist, you get retweeted by Elmo. He's promoting the worst humans have to offer, and I hope he takes them all to Mars with him.
One of the best things about #phptek is getting home and seeing all of the open tabs in my browser of things I need to read and research. One of the worst things is how long it'll take! The highest number of open tabs is from @ramsey's talk on building a Composer package.

Who else has trouble answering the “Occupation” field on forms, when it’s a predetermined list of options, with no “Other” option?
I guess the closest thing, for me, would be “Information Technology, Systems,” but I’ve spent much of my adult life explaining to others that I’m not in IT, so it feels wrong to select that.
I can now run for 30 minutes without a walking break, and I run 3x a week.
I do strength training 3-4x a week, and have gone from not being able to lift myself at all on the pull up bar with the strongest resistance band, to doing a full pull up with that band - I've moved on to the next band now.
I can lift and carry all of my kids, two at a time. I can give my kids piggy back rides. I can roller skate for 2 hours with my daughter.
@jessicamauerhan I think the last time I successfully did a pull up was after about the same amount of training. I can't do them any more. :( Nice work!
@Xenograg I'm really not sure what prompted me to follow you or if it was a reciprocal follow after you started following me (which begs the question: why?), but I really enjoy your posts! Keeping nerding out on the nerd stuff. I don't play D&D any more (sadly, no TTRPGs currently), but recently started listing to Swift as a middle finger to MAGA, and wish we did SRE well (or really anything well) at $employer. @Xenograg I remember hearing that song on the radio in someone's car and thought it was a hell of a catchy tune. I had no idea it was hers until this week. I guess I've been a low-key #swiftie for longer than I thought!
I'm the only one in my family (or really, community at large) that still masks up. I did not wear a mask at a concert two days ago, but did on the four flights over the last week. Yet, I tested positive for COVID. I feel like based on the timing (On average, symptoms showed up in the newly infected person about 5.6 days after contact), it was probably someone I know that felt "kinda bad", that I caught it from before my travel. Not sure what I'm saying, but damn, COVID sucks.
It's strange, but I feel the overarching lesson of Twitter was "how snarkily funny can I be" whereas on Mastodon it's "how kind and generous can I be" and good lord I am so here for this change, even if it results in less clickbait and "engagement"
@codinghorror I literally just sent a Toot (or whatever it's called) to a person I don't think I know telling them how much I enjoy their posts. I would never have done that on Xitter.
