Ever since the update to iOS17, I was unable to use my watch due to the sideloaded Pebble app constantly crashing badly. But I recently found out that iMazing could help restore the original IPA which is supposed to be a bit less broken than sideloaded. It seems to be indeed the case. Now I can at least load and manage apps/watchfaces. This is giving me more confidence that I can get back to using regular and transition away from the Watch by using the Pebble time.

Speaking as an old fancier of mechanical , back in the day, we owned one good piece, usually Swiss or Japanese with a black or a white dial, that we wear for decades, until we were gifted another watch our birthday or a significant event. But today, every watch enthusiast owns at least tens of watches, each colour coordinated to the wardrobe. What's up with that!

I know it is a bit unusual but I own a , a and a watch yet I donโ€™t have any . I am going to fix that soon as I am missing a field watch in my collection. Hint: I went very cheap as I intend for it to be my beater ๐Ÿ˜.

Itโ€™s 2024. I want to make a backup of my photos in original quality on an offline drive but really wants me to pay more iCloud subscription instead. is an useless crap struggling to sync photos with my computer. DCIM on is a slow, unstable and buggy mess that never works properly or crashes mid-transfer. So my only reasonable solution is to pay for an app that basically sets up a connection with their WebDav server companion app and be done with it. Fuck Apple.

Daylight Savings Time is so awesome. I love trying to convince my kid to go to bed while the sun is still up, get out of bed before the sun comes back up, wear gloves and a jacket because the bike ride to school now happens at the absolute coldest part of the night, and ride the long way to school because the usual route is full of drivers who are now staring directly into the sunrise.

What's not to love?

@DrTCombs I too enjoy being inconvenienced and suffering long-term health effects for no conclusive reason other than because some bored guys last century came up with that terrible idea so they could spend more time playing golf or catching insects.

    @Jonly @GossiTheDog probably a big redesign of how they charge with some wireless tech. I donโ€™t see how the metal contacts would survive water in the long run.

    @Jonly @GossiTheDog the iPhone is not waterproof but water resistant. It does not fry itself because it has water detection that deactivates the port circuit when wet and the port is coated but it will still corrode and break in the mid-term. There is a reason for the Apple Watch which is specifically ok with swimming being wireless charging only.

    @Jonly @GossiTheDog there are plenty of stories of AirPods surviving a quick drop in the water or a wash, and plenty of stories of iPhones dying in the water regardless. Apple never actually uses the words โ€œwater proofโ€ for a reason ๐Ÿ˜…

    The joy of ๐Ÿ˜…. The Citizen E650 synced with the atomic clock tower during the night so its time was correct in the morning. The Casio only required to turn on DST so it was painless. Except for the Apple Watch obviously, everything else needed to be adjusted manually though.

    @jbm the Citizen E650 also has this very weird feature to help with the corner case of timezones that are on an offset of +-15/30 minutes. I donโ€™t know many that can do that.

    @carnage4life they are both wrong. Both devices are garbage prototypes not ready for public consumption and pretty much nobody seems to want to strap an ugly and unwieldy screen to their face. I wonder why ๐Ÿคก

    lol, I just purchased an old game which has been released on Steam for the first time, which I know hasn't worked for some time due to a limit around not supporting multi core CPUs - I wanted to see how they got around it since the studio is closed.

    How the publisher got around it - they use a cracked version of the game which has a fix added on, lol. I might write this up.
